Love camping on long island. West side was very rough though. The dock would actually lift up because the waves would get so big from all the boat traffic

I have very mixed opinions on this campground. First off I understand it is an island and how hard it must be to keep it up. However absolutely no care is taken into maintaining any of the Campsites on long island.

When we checked in we were greeted with "welcome to my home" by the park attendant, and if this is how they treated this home they should be ashamed.

The bathrooms are some of the grossest things I have ever encountered. I completely understand why there's old wooden porta pottys and I'm for it. But I have seen old ones before and they are still cleaned. I truly believe you can catch something by just walking into any one of these. There's fecal matter all over the place. There's no way these are maintained properly.

As for the Campsites, another let down. I understand about keeping the integrity of the site and not cutting any trees to make way for a site. And they do provide a tent platform but what if there's 2 tents? The other one is going on the most unleveled ground you can imagine. The grass is about a foot high at this point in the season (thus attracting ticks) and I'm pretty sure it's not getting cut any time soon if ever.

So again I understood what I was getting into with no running water and it being an island site, I do this type of camping all the time but this was just shameful. This island offers some of the most beautiful sites probably in the country and the tourist activity here is top priority. I have always loved state run campgrounds because of how well they take care of the place but this was insane.

If you go please be aware what your getting yourself into.

Garbage dump sites are located next too 88 and 87 (and they definitely try hard to make it difficult to get to this dumpster).

Also racoon central, insane amount of raccoons and they will find you.

I was going to post pictures but it's not worth it. The sites are not big and tents go wherever you find space (if not using the platform).

NYS campsites for $28 a night. Right in the middle of the lake so you have to have a boat. Your own outhouse, platform, picnic table and place to make fire.
