You MUST stay here. My wife and I stayed here from January to August. My wife is a travel nurse and this community took us in and treated us like family. Everyone is so wonderful, Jim and his lovely wife were without a doubt the most welcoming and caring camp hosts we have ever encountered. The grounds are well kept, there is no lacking of fun things to get into, and there's always a friendly face to give you a smile wherever you go. Please, if you are traveling through the area either short term or long term, do yourself a favor and check out Lazy Palm Ranch. We have zero complaints after almost 8 full months. Best campground we've stayed at in our 3 years on the road.
Sandbur Heaven is the real name. NOT a place for pets or kids. The Owner needs to spend a little time and money on weed control and grass seed. Nice location could be an amazing place. Sounds like they prefer to run on a shoe string budget. They don't even put gravel on the roads. They use a chip clay very slick and messy when wet. Do NOT ride a motorcycle on them when damp. When I mentioned the sandburs and ants ( o yes lots & lots of ants ) to an employee, their answer was ( It is A Ranch! ) This must make poor grounds keeping OK .
Was also told no fish in fishing pond, water has gone bad and killed them. Now it's a weed bed for mosquito.
We stayed here a week at the end of March. Park was not very full so it was very quiet. Also very peaceful setting out of the city on a back country road.
One half of park is senior residents in park models and other half RVs.
Sites are in grass (mostly dead when we were there) with a small concrete pad to set chairs or grill on. Pool area nice but actual pool could use an updating. Lots of chipping and kinda dirty but still cool and refreshing on a hot day in TX.
Library, puzzle room, shuffle and bocce ball. Rec hall for gatherings. Didn’t use laundry or restrooms but looked well kept. Facilities are just a bit outdated but still ok. Lots of space to walk and a small pond with some ducks to enjoy some nature.
25-30 minutes from town but a country store on the corner has all the essentials you might need if you are out of something.
Wi-Fi in park was spotty. T-mobile service was pretty good with a few spots here and there. Verizon not as good and only worked in certain areas.
Decent price for a week at $150.
Friendly affordable country campground.
Quiet and safe. Pool and hot tub not heated. Lots of activities.
Our first time here and we loved it! It’s well maintained, the staff is friendly as well as the residents. Some sites are permanent and some are seasonal. We stayed in a seasonal site. Site is a pull through big enough to house our class A rig and a smaller trailer. Not a lot of shade, so summer camping wouldn’t work but it’s perfect for winter getaway. Laundry is $1.50 wash and $1.25 dry. Showers appeared clean, however we didn’t use them. There’s a nice gathering place where from November til March they serve one breakfast, one lunch and 1 dinner per week for a small fee. The food here is excellent! Can’t get a better meal anywhere else. This park is located 1.5 hours from South Padre Island which is a nice place to visit. We enjoyed our stay and will be back.
