About Campground

Flowing over and around huge slabs of limestone, the Pedernales River can be turbulent. But most often it is tranquil, and a great place to relax and recharge. We are just 30 miles west of Austin. Come over for an afternoon swim or hike, or load up your gear for an overnight adventure. The river awaits!

Choose a site with water and electricity or hike to a primitive site. Bring your group to the Youth Group Camp or Equestrian Group Camp.

We visited on 12/17/23 and were pleasantly surprised. There were no waterfalls, but the pools of water were absolutely gorgeous! Crystal clear water, rocks to climb (most not too dangerous), small caves, butterflies, etc. Very peaceful! $6/pp or $70 for an annual pass. We drove by the camping area to check it out, and it looked nice and clean with a shelter spot with a picnic table, power, and water spicket. Merchandise such as t-shirts and beverages available at the check-in headquarters. Both men that waited on us at the drive-thru station and in the headquarters were very polite. Also, dog friendly, but must be on a leash!

Great place for hiking and camping. Pendernales offers primitive campsites as well as full hook-up sites. Many miles available for those that are both new and seasoned hikers. Campsites, weather primitive or not, do put you rather close to your neighbors. SOOOOOO, if you dislike people putting their nose in yo bidness, wear a scary mask.

Most people seem friendly in both camping areas.

When hiking be prepared for the garbage, there's quite a bit of trash and micro-trash all over the place. I myself picked up plastic bags, an mre bag, broken glass🤨 and several micro pieces of plastic.

Overall, staff is friendly and knowledgable- so ask questions!!!

Will return to stomp out more miles on my feet, and carefully sit on rock chairs in the future.

9/10, very beautiful.

Secluded state park in the hill country. Camping sites with electricity and water. Good distance between most sites. We had a site on the outside rim that was very deep. Our only complaint was the parking blocks placed on the sides of the site for parking the trailer. One was located just below our steps creating a tripping hazard, and could not adjust the trailer location at this site for it not to be in the way. I have camped and nearly 10 Texas state parks in the last couple of years and these are unnecessary. On the plus, great trails for hiking.

This is a nice place for a day outing. You can enter the park with a 6 USD/ person fee, as well as season pass and camping facilities are available. There are several spots inside the park to drive to, out of those the overlook and the swimming area are most interesting. From the overlook the cascades of the fall are visible and the water color is pretty neat. It's good for a little walk toward the cascades and the rocks too. Just as a note, no drones are allowed for photography purposes.

This was an awesome state park with so many hiking trails. Trammells crossing was great you have to cross the river early on in the trail, you will 100% get wet crossing here, so have a plan, I removed my shoes before crossing and put them back on other people had large plastic bags. The trail was pretty legit I’d recommend the extra spur on the south side, one a the best parts of the trail and the river overlook on the north is one a the best views in the park.

The wolf mountain loop was nice with solid views all around, it connects with a number of other trails, I ended up taking on the Jones spring trail, and hiked back to the parking lot using part of the juniper ridge trail which was really awesome, one of my favorites.

The falls area was fun to explore I walked the west falls area and explored the rocks and lower falls areas.

It was winter time so I didn’t do much swimming but it looked like a great park for it. It rained a lot and the trails can get slick so bring good hiking shoes.

The electric camping area I stayed at was great the spots area reasonably spaced out, bathrooms with showers are available.

This was a great park and experience highly recommend.
