Wonderful shelter with a fire place. It was 0 degrees with wind chill (22 deg F) and I was so cold in my REI 20 deg sleeping bag that I do not recommend this shelter at this time of the year without proper equipment.

To find firewood, hike back up the trail to newfound gap some. The area around and below the shelter is picked clean.

Safe and easy access backcountry shelter. you can watch the sunrise from the shelter. 12 people can stay. right-now they allow anybody to camp outside due to covid.

Well-kept shelter. Not a lot of extra space around the shelter. Privy was closed. Fire ring had been removed because too many people were cutting down live trees. Several warning signs about not cutting down live trees.

Great hike for kids from Newfound Gap. Easy water access. Close to the Jump Off for a beautiful sun set and night hike back to the shelter. Grass was way overgrown in July 2023. Felt like I needed to do a tick check after walking to the bar cables.
