When it was Cherrystone, it was great. Now that it is Sun Outdoors, it is not so great. Website says $30 for early check-in but if you get here early, you have to pay the full daily price for the night before or wait until 2pm. When asked about the $30, they said they don't follow the website. All they care about is getting your dollar. They nickel and dime you for everything. This is a great location. It is just too bad it has lost its charm. This is the last time our large group will come here.

*A phone call was made prior to arrival. The front desk stated that there are no early check-ins and that the daily rate would apply. This was my son's booking as I was already there. I went to the office with the website ready to show wht their site states. They said they do not participate in what their website says.

Scarystone used to be amazing and packed. Then, the pricing changed. There were at least half or more of the RV sites that were not occupied. 3 years ago, there were zero sites available. Last year, there were quite a few open spots. This year, nearly everything was vacant other than the 50 amp sites and cabins.

Again, the location is amazing. Great sunsets. Especially from site 711.

This is a huge campgrounds with lots of family friendly kid activities. It's also very packed with tent camping, RV camping and cabin camping. The sites are an ok size, but there isn't any privacy, which is normal for private campgrounds. They are stone, sites do not have fire pits, you just pick a spot and burn. We ended up not having campfire. I felt like the campgrounds hadn't been kept up with mowing and weed eating or cleaning of the flower beds. It would have also been nice if some of the weeds had been trimmed so the sites could see bay area clearer. They have a huge general store that has everything, which was really nice! I would make a recommendation that if someone is staying more than a certain amount of nights to make a deal with the golf carts, $79 night is a lot on top of full hook ups, plus a 7 night stay. We didn't rent one, but it is definitely something that is recommended and easier to get around. They have an adult only pool where you can have adult beverages. That pool was very clean. The beaches were not very clean. Despite it not being kept up the best, we hope to eventually return in a few years.

I stayed one night at this campground and that's all I can take. The first point of contact which was the main office which set the tone. The office has very high counters where you can hardly see the employees. The ladies were did not smile and gave yes and no answers, offered no solutions. I understand dealing with people is hard but there is a usually a way to turn a bad conversation around. These ladies did not seem to care at all. During our several trips to the office I saw one older lady who was smiling but I didn't get a chance to talk to her. The guard shack guys where my favorite. They always had a smile and were jokesters. I loved it. The little neck cafe had the same issues with employees, they seemed miserable. The main pool ladies bathroom smelled like urine. The bathroom by our cabin was much better. They have lots of amenities for families with young kids. The park was clean and in a great location but I wont go back. The cabin had several safety issues .The camp store by the main pool was well stocked and hours were good.

The campground is poorly managed and maintained. The bathroom at the adult pool was almost overflowing with human waste; our site was a mud pit 3 days after the rain cleared out while others around us were dry. We asked management for something to help dry up the mud and they could not be bothered so we ended up buying 40 pounds of cat litter and cleaning it up ourselves. No one to enforce the rules as we had called the ranger station 3 times due to noise after quite hours and finally had to threaten the ranger with calling the police if nothing was done at 1:30 in the morning. Children are driving golf carts when the age posted was 18. The electrical services is not up to the 50 amp site we booked. We almost had a fire because of low voltage which cost us a $500 repair. They also make you wait until 2:00 to get to your site. You would think that they were out there cleaning up your site but no - when we arrived there was garbage left by the previous campers. Thank God for our wonderful friends who made this bad situation bearable. We were at other Sun Outdoors and they cared about the customer - not here!!

I had a review from a few years ago and I needed to update. This campground has changed ownership. It shows. I'm not saying it is a bad experience but it isn't for the better. Prices are up. Rules are engaged to a degree that you wonder why it is necessary. And they may be shorter staffed which makes the cleanliness and service suffer. Not always controllable. If you decide to provide an auxiliary bathroom near the fishing shop, maintain it and at least make sure it locks. One was out of order. Just remove it if you can't maintain it. If you don't mind paying the price by all means come and enjoy that sunset. It is beautiful!
