We were to stay in one of the 'better' lodges. Drove 250 mile through DC and Kings Dominion traffic only to turn around the next day and go back home through even worse traffic. Lake Gaston is beautiful. Lake Gaston Lodges are on the opposite spectrum. Screen door was damages and did not have a bottom to it, screen was poorly duct taped. A/C window unit was loud and did not have a therostat, so it ran constantly. The refrigerator made as much noise as the A/C unit. We had to leave the bedroom door open a crack to get a bit of cool air, so we could be comfortable. Dismal depressing property. Doubt if the TV and VCR\DVD combo even worked. The TV was some brand name I've never heard of, Dennon or something cheap like that. Could not use the night stand as the drawer fell onto the floor when I first pulled on it. It should be called Dilapidated Rustic Lodge... the swimming area was a 30x40 muck bottom disaster. One neighbor was nice, the other left his dogs poop next to our picnic table out front. Go at your own risk. Remember the old adage, 'You get what you pay for". We got a full refund and did not get anything for driving to Lake Gaston and back (over 500 miles).
the cabin smelled moldy and the stocked so called pond looked like it was covered in algae, the canoe that was available has a broken seat and out kids fell into the boat as they sat down. the small beach area was covered in red ants and needed a good racking to get all the tree debris off of it.
My wife has been coming here for 15 years and I have for the last 6. We love staying here! We always enjoy playing Cornhole and throwing horse shoes. Each set of cabins has fire pits as well for the night time. It’s a great place to unwind and enjoy some time by the water.
Been here about 4 times in 2 years! Everytime we go it's been perfect! No complaints! I do not know the owners personally and we are always rushing in or out when we see them (as we go and visit family in Pea Hill Creek) but they seemed very nice when we first met and have always told us if we needed anything during our stay to just call them! Our cottages have always been cute and clean with everything working well! We have used their boat dock as well which is very nice!
Its best place to be outing, camping and baoting. They provide free kayaks and boats which can be utilized to have fun in lake throughout the day. We are already planing to revisit the lodge next year.
