About Campground

Sarge's Pay Lake and Campground is located 300 yards off the Creeper Trail in Green Cove, Virginia. Sarge's offers primitive camping with a stocked trout pay lake. Groups that frequent Sarge's are the Scouts of America, Trail Life, motorcycle groups of the Iron Mountain Trail, church groups, and the Girl scouts of America.

For fishing, Sarge's offers catch and keep at $6.00 for each fish caught. I will clean your catch for a nominal fee or you are welcome to use my cleaning station. I also offer catch and release with artificial lures only. The price is two fish for $5.00. At Sarge's, a fishing license is not required, and I supply the equipment and the baits for catch and release only. All of my trout are over 12 inches long with some well over 20 inches. The campground and pay lake are open by appointment only.

The campground is open in March (weather depending) through November. Due to the size of the campground, reservations are needed especially for the weekends. Free WIFI, firewood, drinking water. Cost is $20.00 per standard two person tent per night. A public bath house is not available, but Port-A-Potties are on site. Eno stands are available.

Troop 124 had great weekend camping at Sarge's. It is very convenient to the Virginia Creeper Trail and the fishing is great! Allen went out of his way to make sure every scout caught a nice trout.

Best experience catching trout I've had . Sarge was very nice n polite . He helped me learn to use a flyrod. I caught 2 trout with it. Also, beautiful drive and has fish cleaning station. I will camp there and bring my grandkids.

My 7 yr old was dying to catch his first fish, his grand parents were camping at bear tree and we had went to see them and they had herd about sarges so off we go to find it and when we did we where lucky, Sarge just happened to be there cause we didn’t know it was by appointment are that he wasn’t open that day, my grandfather told Sarge why we where there. Now out of the kindness of his heart seeing my son he said “ I’ve got about 30 minutes so let’s get this boy his first fish” he got my son a pole and was so helpful and caring in less than 5 mins my boy had his first of two fish, my boy was glowing with pride and Sarge seemed to be having a ball with my boy. Sarge didn’t have to take the time to do that for my son that day he was closed but he did it he went above and beyond and since that day I’ve told everyone about this little pond with such a great owner.

Thank you Sarge we will see you again soon

We used Sarge's campground to stay overnight on a school trip and it was perfect. Close to the creeper trail, wifi, warm showers, and clean bathrooms. Our students fished in the lake and then we made a fire from wood Sarge offered. In the morning there is coffee and hot chocolate. We even saw the eagle a few times fly overhead. We will absolutely stay here next time we go out to Damascus. Sarge is so friendly and offers everything you need. It was such a nice experience that I'm writing the review while still sitting around the campfire. Thanks for a great stay :)

Sarge's Pay Lake & Campground is a very family, scout, church group friendly campground. Allen, AKA Sarge, has a huge heart for spending time with juice and teaching them the excitement of Trout Fishing. My hat's off to you, Sarge, for what you have and are creating. We enjoyed a wonderful weekend a relaxation, Virginia creeper tour and fishing.
