Couldn’t recommend this campground enough! Perfect place to fish, awesome people running it, and the scenery is incredible. Even if your not going with the goal to bring home fish, the bird and river watching makes this place worthwhile! Thanks for a great fourth! See you again soon!
Also if booking a charter we recommend Tyler as the guide, my guys were thrilled with their entire experience! They said that even if they had not caught fish (A king for each of them) they had so much fun that it wouldn’t have even mattered. The charter was not the typical turn and burn but was actually the whole day!
Craig the camp host was awesome, I was in need of ice for the fish coming back from my guys trip and since I was out of my spot when he came buy he loaded it up in my coolers for me.
I’ve seen other reviews where people have complained about space. Our spots have always been adequately sized and for a campground that gives you direct access to salmon fishing, this is quite typical, and in my opinion these spots are bigger and offer more privacy then other close by campgrounds, if your particular about space size or privacy I suggest booking early.
We ended up staying here for 2 nights midweek and it was great. My one complaint is the pit toilets, at least the ones closest to us. Really stinky. We travel a lot and I've been in a lot of porta potties and pit toilets, these are bad. But the lady in the office was really nice, it was great to have showers and laundry available and the location is beautiful and peaceful. It had a very zen feel with the eagles and gulls and the water. We would definitely return if in the area, particularly midweek. We have a feeling the weekend might get more kids and maybe a little rowdier.
A spur of the moment, last minute booking in 2022... turned into a year in advance plan to go on a King Charter and stay over the 4th of July weekend in 2023. Boy, am I glad we found this place. A family run business that truly goes out of their way to take care of their guests.
4th of July brings fireworks and a fish fry put on by the campground staff!
Skyler & Tyler were our guides on the King Salmon charter on the 2nd day of the season. These guys made this trip an absolute blast. And a 2 hour float back to camp seeing the gorgeous Klutina river after you fished all day... This is the Alaska adventure you want to be on. These guys are knowledgeable, fun and hardworking who take getting their clients on the fish, seriously.
And I can't forget "One Cast Kevin". I met him on the last day of the trip and he got me on the sockeye. I watched him for a solid hour hook into fish left and right. I knew I needed his expertise. He kindly showed me the ropes and I humbly accepted his advice. I limited out soon after, and am so grateful to him for sharing his knowledge.
Thank you, King for a Day Crew!
Staying here was one of the best experiences we've had in Alaska. We stayed for two nights and did a fishing charter. I think it was a terrific value. The charter consisted of a 90 minute/25 mile side by side ride along a pretty well maintained road through the Alaskan back country. Then we loaded up into very safe feeling river boats and our guide brought us to our first stop, where at we caught 6 sockeye salmon in a gentle pool. The fish were jumping and rolling in front of us. Then we drifted down the river and fished for kings. Our party of 3 landed 2 and lost 2. We fished from shore from a really relaxing riverbank in an Eddy. Our guide Tyler did a great job of coaching everyone and critiquing our execution. I've done a lot of lake fishing but river fishing was new to us and the tutelage was appreciated. Then we loaded back in for a 2.5 hour river rafting ride back to the campground. Word to the wise, bring more snacks than you think you need and dress in layers. If you have waterproof pants wear them. The day is long (10 hours) and ride back can be much colder than the fishing. I found the staff to be kind, considerate, humble and welcoming. The camping sites were flat and clean. Judging by Alaska standards the campground gets a A-/B+. The only downsides are it's not like a KOA where you have a ton for the kids to do and it's not like a federal campground where you have a lot of privacy between sites; but both of those have A) noise or B) no electricity, showers, or water! The place isn't "cute". It's not glamping. But if you like to fish or want to take your teenagers on an adventure, where else do you get 10 hours of adventure for under $250/person?!?
Amazing campground right on the river. Great spot for salmon fishing. The owner was very nice and the guides were super informative and willing to help!
This will definitely be a regular spot for us; absolutely fell in love with it.
Well worth the drive!
