We stayed 3 nights early in the season so we had the campground to ourselves. Location is great, just a mile from grocery store & a short trip to Lake Lure & Chimney Rock. We met Laura who was friendly & gave us firewood for the site. The internet was spotty but phone service worked well. The bathhouses were clean. We enjoyed the 2 ducks in the pond on our campsite #22 which gave us a nice scene. There was also a beaver or otter in the pond as well. If you’re expecting glitz & glam, it may not be for you. But if you’re looking for a simple, nature getaway, it’s perfect. I would return if up that way again!! Thank you!!
This place is a true gem! It's close to everything and yet secluded at the same time. It's perfect! The staff will go out of their way o make sure you have the most amazing time. And we can't forget mentioning Ms. Laura "the Popsicle Lady"! Our kids love going there mostly because of her! We are very picky on where we stay, and Hitching Post Campground is now a yearly spot for us (sometimes more than once a year) because we are NEVER disappointed!
We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend at Hitching Post. Campground was lovely, well-kept and really close to all the fun stuff in the area. Staff was helpful and friendly, especially Laura, AKA The Popsicle Lady, who was on hand to make sure we had everything we needed, and deliver popsicles nightly to our site. The kids were in paradise. Will stay again!
Mr. Jim and his wife Pat always treated us with kindness. They really were great people. I vacationed here for years. Even after Mr. Jim passed away, my dad and I had an opportunity to tent camp here a few years ago. Still one of my favorite memories. Located minutes away from lake lure and all of its activities this place. Truly was a hidden gem for me.
My wife an I stayed here two weeks in April 2023. We stayed at dozens of campgrounds last year. This one was among our favorites. Truly surrounded by nature. The grounds are a bit Spartan and that’s how we like it! Quiet, beautiful stream running through the grounds. Wild turkeys parade by regularly. The folks running the place are friendly the way us Texans just find natural to be around. The Popsicle lady was a hoot and we enjoyed every minute we had with her!
It’s a short drive to Lake Lure and Chimney Rock. Ollie’s grocery store is on the same road a couple miles down the road so it’s very convenient. We spent several days just walking around the trails and enjoying the dense woods and nature. We could hear the wind coming through the valley long before it gets to you. The stars were bright and beautiful. If y’all are looking for a campsite that’s got paved parking slots or the latest amenities including flat screen bathhouse this ain’t that. BUT if you’re looking for a real pleasant campsite far from the rat race and a place you can walk barefoot in a clear stream like a kid again this is it! You won’t regret it! You’re welcome!
