Breitenbush Campground is nestled along the banks of its namesake river in the forests of western Oregon. The peaceful flow of the river can be heard throughout the campground, providing a peaceful getaway for campers. Recreation Wading and fishing are popular activities in the Breitenbush River, and rainbow trout is the most common catch for anglers. The Willamette National Forest has about 1,700 miles of trail. While many are in wilderness areas, a number of trails are low-elevation, easy-access trails for year-round hiking. Facilities This campground has 29 sites, 18 are reservable, and all have picnic tables, grills and easy access to the vault toilets. Drinking water spigots are spread throughout the campground. Most campsites offer sweeping views of the river. Natural Features The campground lies in the Willamette National Forest, which stretches for 110 miles along the western slopes of the Cascade Range. The varied landscape of high mountains, narrow canyons, cascading streams and wooded slopes offer varied recreational opportunities for visitors. The Breitenbush River is a tributary of the North Santiam River, and its clean waters flow from snow melt in the Mount Jefferson Wilderness. A variety of plants and foliage separate the spacious campsites and provide privacy from other sites. Nearby Attractions Detroit Lake provides plenty of opportunity for water recreation like boating, water skiing and kayaking. ADA Access: N
From Detroit, Oregon, at the intersection of State Route 22 and Forest Service Road (FSR) 46, take FSR 46 north and continue 9.3 miles to the campground on the right.
Host is wonderful. Nice grounds for walking and large campsites. Will be regulars but it us dry camping no hookups
Loved the campgrounds. It was very quiet. The host was really friendly. He helped give directions to the public hot springs which ended up being a highlight of the trip.
The sites had a lot of space between them and it was so nice to be by the river!
Cool campground. No showers or running water as of the first week of July 2023. Pack accordingly.
Love this place! No cell service, so it's a great place to truly unplug. Sites are spaced far enough apart, so it feels private. There is no running water at this time due to past forest fire. Stayed 4 nights. Fishing is hit and miss.
A very beautiful campground and area! Most campsites are well spaced apart for privacy and the pit toilets are spotless and well maintained! Kudos to the camp host! He did have firewood bundles for sale, $7 each, but we brought our own. The campground was saved from burning from the wildfires, but the water pump was damaged and the spigots were turned off, no running water except the river, so had to bring our own drinking/ cooking water. The best sites are along the river with path access to the water. They do allow dogs on a leash and all campers kept to the rules and cleaned up after their dogs. We stayed in Site #15, but Site #6, 7 & 8, is our favorites. Great fishing hole at Sites #6 & #7! Will be back again!
