Stayed one month here - great place! Love the cement pads, spaced well. Well taken care of park, staff is friendly and helpful. Bathrooms stay clean. Only downfall is the bathhouse needs some serious updating and the park being right next to the railroad (otherwise quiet besides the screeching of the train at all hours).

Very spacious and the grounds are well kept. Very close to base and close to other recreational activities such as archery.

„Fort Sam Houston RV Park:“

1. Large sites with concrete pads

2. Dog Run, poop bags on many poles all around park & most in combination with disposal

3. Very close to Golf course if interested

4. not the cleanest showers but good laundry room with modern front loaders

5. Not far from downtown

6. roads are so so

7. Winnans Road Gate is easy access for RV park and open every day with limited weekend hours

8. Grounds well kept

9. office personell extremely nice and helpful

10. propane fill easy and quickly

11. commissary and large PX complex 3 Mile bicycle ride from RV park

If you like watching planes (San Antonio International airport) and listening to trains (as I do)…..it’s an awesome place.

!!staff….namely Lucianna….some of the nicest most helpful I have encountered in 37 years around military and MWR

This is one of the best FamCamps in the MWR network. When you hear FamCamp, this is a family setting campground. From a huge playground to the long dogrun and a plethora of dog waste cans and bags throughout and the very large spaces. Overall, there really is not much (trains) to complain about. The staff are super friendly, the maintenance crew is AMAZING, and the camp hosts are easy to get along with. There is so much to see and do on and off post. I'm not sure what you can really look down upon. There are extra (huge too) playgrounds less than 2 miles away. The Equestrian Center is just down the street. You can search for activities on base, but it's so plentiful that this is an awesome choice for staying short or long-term. Full support with propane refill is as easy as dropping off the tank and picking up and paying later in the day. Washing machines are $2, and dryers are $1.75 (get quarters from inside the office). Price per month is one of the cheapest in MWR, too.

The huge downside that's been hard to get used to for me is the train that will blow their horn for 1 to 4 seconds for at least 3 separate crossings during each and every pass as they go between the rv park and the hospital. This happens at all times throughout the day and all night long. It's not just one train a day either, more like 10 trains or more a day.
