You MUST use the Growden Gate, which is located off US-90 near the intersection of US-151. From US-90, take the Acme Street exit and turn South at the red light and then right at the stop sign onto Gowden Dr. (N29.40631 W098.58794). Follow Growden Dr. South/West for a couple miles. Enter the Gowden Gate (24/7) and bear right at the Y onto Andrews Rd. Andrews Road changes names to Kelly Dr, (total about 1.75 miles). Turn right (North) on Kenly Ave. Turn right on Luke Blvd. Near the end of road, turn left on Foster Ave. Campground is on your righ
(2021) Great price, good facilities. Lots are here for long term, but we found a nice spot. (2023) Back again, no change. Staff is still very gracious and helpful. Great shady space, good internet, great broadcast TV signal, and very low monthly rates. Life is good!!!
This is a first come, first serve campground for $25/night that doesn't allow homesteading according to the website. However, we saw several rigs that looked like they were there for more than the 180 day limit. We called every 20-30 minutes during the stated office hours on a Sat, and no one ever answered the phone. That may be a one off, I'm not sure. However, the answering machine message stated that the campground will do a same day hold for a site. Of course, someone has to answer the phone for that to happen! No mention of that on any websites.
We took our chances and pulled in to find one site left. We should have immediately put up the occupied sign and blue cone, because as soon as we headed to the office another rig pulled into our site. The guy was super cool though and let us reclaim the site since we were there first. The pads are concrete and fairly level with 50A FHU. Being in San Antonio, cell service and OTA channels are great. No wifi in the campground although it may be available near the office. The place is well maintained. It would be nice if they had doggie stations.
Currently, the best and most direct gate to go in is the Luke Blvd one off of US 90 and Military RD/Texas 13. Once through the gate, go straight until you see the campground. You're supposed to enter/leave out the Growden Gate, but that is a long roundabout way and not every intersection has street signs. Way to go AF! :( If I could do it again, I'd shoot straight back through the Luke Gate when leaving.
Great place to stay at, my husband and I love it here. From the bugle at 0630 Hours to the national anthem at 1730 Hours even the Taps at 2100 Hours. It's amazing Mr. Dave it's a very very nice man. It's a great place to stay at!
Very quiet, great prices, wish the shade trees for the pads were bigger and every pad had shade trees and full hook ups. Spots are first come first serve. Clean laundry facility and bathrooms. Be careful with the vending machine it will take your change sometimes. Only downfall was the dang cat running around teasing the dogs. I'm highly allergic and didn't want it near us.
Clean and safe. The gentleman in the office was very nice. The laundry is just steps away from the sites.
