I have retired and live at lake Afton. Electric hook up is included.this is my second year and as of November 1st my rent as a Sr citizen is going up by $60 per month and rumor has it a new superintendent is coming out to the lake I don't believe the price increase is to provide electrical m so they can charge you for electric I do live on a fixed income and I have a camper with slide outs if I have to pay that kind of price there's places that are about $40 more a month and yet to pay electric as well but I don't have to wear turn my camper from sliding in and out and moving every 14 days from April 1st to November 1st which is a real hassle I don't believe bath houses are kept up lots of dead trees the price was right for me last year living on social security but this year's going to be a different story I'm not happy with the price increase for what you actually get out it will probably cause me to move . As I can get a room mate and rent a 2 bedroom house for what I will be paying for rent starting November 1. I'm disappointed living at lake Afton on a fixed income.thiers also a lot of pit bull owners and some owners allow them to run Free. I wonder if these dog owners have insurance as required by law. I don't believe this is enforced. It seems to be all about the Dollars and not the comfort of the people who actually live here yr round. Sad to say. I thought I could retire comfortably with my camper but I can see that I will be priced out of lake Afton probably by next year.
The bathroom's are a mess. The shade keeps getting cut away and the electrical/water spots are few and far between. They now charge 5.00 per vehicle here and the same price for multiple tents now starting at 11.00 a day. It's not cheap to camp anymore but the view is beautiful and when it's not crowded the peaceful atmosphere is amazing.
The lake is close to the metro area so it’s convenient to travel to. It’s fairly well maintained in terms of being clean, mowed, building upkeep, and road maintenance. The camping and ability to drive up and relax for late evenings is lovely. The observatory is also on lake grounds for an extra bout of fun. Late night experiences are typically alright though you’ll find more questionable crowds the later you stay.
The “trails” and nature paths are pretty nice and different than ones in town if you’re looking for a change of views. There is geocaching around there too!
Absolutely wonderful place to stay extended or short time. I've experienced nothing but great things from these people here. Excellently run facilities and amenities. Hot water you're round.
