Horrible customer service. I paid for spots 276, 277 and 278. Upon arrival, we checked the map from their website and set up on the first three spots according to THEIR map.

Several hours later the staff came and told us that we had to move our tents to the area between the road and the first campsite.

We walked down the row and EVERY site past us is set up to the left of the sign post. They tried to say that we needed to set up to the right. This leaves us INCHES from the road in a campground full of drunks.

Down the row, site 272 is empty. Someone is set up in the wrong spot, but it isn't us.

When I asked why we weren't told not to go by the camp, he said because we didn't stop and check in at the office.

Every person in our group checked in and got a car hang tag. We showed those to him and he had no response. We couldn't have gotten car tags without checking in.

The highlighted areas on THEIR map are the sites I rented. The campground manager made us move above those, and next to the road.

I have floated all over the State and the tall guy who said he is the "managing co-owner" is extremely rude and unprofessional.

I would give zero stars if I could.

There are a dozen other campgrounds on this stretch of the Niangua. I will definitely not be back at HVO.

Arrived Friday June 23rd with reservations. When I booked the campsite and paid the deposit, I told the girl our plans to stay Friday/Saturday night and leave Sunday afternoon. After driving 3 hours with the family and arriving Friday, they presented me with this multi page contract (never seen anything like this for a camp site). The contract stated: check out time was 12 on Sunday. After bringing it to the young man’s attention at the front desk, he said to give him a minute so he could see what he could do. So I went to use the restroom, came back and waited my turn in line again and this time was met by Matt, who I assume is the owner. I honestly never would have expected this to be a problem and figured it would be easily resolved. I explained to Matt that we booked the reservation and the girl never said anything about there being an issue with us staying until Sunday afternoon, Matt interrupted me and wanted to argue what was discussed between me and the girl on the phone. When he wasn’t present for the conversation. He kept insisting that he trains everyone there and there’s no way they wouldn’t have told me about the 12:00 check out time. Matt: why would we drive 3 hours, arrive Friday evening, hang out one day(Saturday), and then have to basically get up Sunday, pack up and hit the road, only to waste a half day of an already short vacation? Does that make sense to you? If your employee had told me that check out time was noon, we would have either discussed it further and come up with a solution or told her, thanks, no thanks, that’s not gonna work for us and just made other weekend plans. But instead, you insult me in front of a room full of patrons and effectively call Me a liar telling me what was and wasn’t said during a conversation you weren’t there for. As a business owner, I would never talk to a customer the way you talked to me. To immediately cut someone off before they can even finish their sentence and then call them a liar was completely unwarranted and totally unprofessional. And then you have the gall to offer to “make an exception”, move me to another camp site and ask me to pay an additional $20 “Late check out fee”? I thought about this thoroughly before making this review. You simply don’t talk to people that way.

We haven't stayed at the campground, but it looks first rate. We have rented canoes from them two times and floated down the Niagua. The canoes and kayaks are in good shape and they pick you up at the end and drive you back to your vehicle. Five stars.
