From Hilo, take Hwy.19 north. After passing through Laupahoehoe, watch for the sign to Laupahoehoe Point. Turn right and follow the road down to the beach park. From Kona, take Hwy. 190 north to Waimea, then Hwy. 19 east through Honoka'a. About 12 miles from Waimea, watch for the sign to Laupahoehoe Point. Turn left and follow the road down to the beach park.
Wow, Laupahoehoe Beach Park is a most incredible experience. Huge concrete pillars gaurd against the incredible force of the untamed ocean. Giant waves crashing down over and over. Camping, fishing, and exploring restrooms and a dock for small craft. Laupahoehoe is a destination for adventure seekers!
If you’re looking for a spot to watch large waves crashing against tall rocks, this place is the one to be at! It was equally peaceful and scary to watch!
We were able to meet an elderly gentleman who was a survivor of thus tsunami. He lost 3 family members , the De Caires family. Beautiful park, great snorkeling, bathrooms . . Very peaceful
One of the BEST parks on the island. Serene, spacious and soooo gorgeous !!! Running water, restrooms, picnic/BBQ areas, playground and an endlessly exquisite expanse of natures extraordinary beauty = Definitely worth the trip :)
I was blown away by this beach. This is not a sand beach, nor is it a "long walk", but it is So dynamic, and powerful! A must see!! The drive down the mountain from the highway is also an awesome adventure, take your time and bring a picnic lunch.
