From Salida, go 8 mi N on State Hwy 291, then 1 mi N on US 285, then 2.4 mi E on County Road 194. Follow signs. This is a narrow, steep (12% grade) dirt road.
This campground is great. They have fresh gravel at each campsite. So you won't get dirty. Also for kids it can be fun to play in. The parking spots are pretty big. A few people have trailer motor homes. I brought my trailer behind my Jeep Compass. This is kind of in a valley surround by small mountains. Very close to the camp spots is a beautiful stream. There's a spot where you can put rafts in the water and pull up a bus. The camping is $9 a night. I don't know if you can pay online. But I came here so I could river surf in Salida. There's a lot of pretty things to see in Salida. This campground is only like 15 minutes away.
Our favorite campground to date in Colorado. We go every year! Sites 1110, 1111, 1112, and 1113 are our favorites (1113 is the unsung hero).
One of our favorite campsites in Colorado. Beautiful views and right by the river. Not much shade, so bring an easy up.
A little pricey at $28, plus $10 park fee, especially without any hookups, utilities, showers, or dump station. (although it wasn't clear of we really needed to also pay the park fee.) However, the location was very cool, the sites were level and excellently maintained with rock rather than dirt/mud, and the boat ramp is enormous.
On the upper Arkansas River. Good place to recover Kayaks launched upstream. Nice hiking trail South along the river. RV Campground is well planned and convenient. Electric but no water. No showers. Vault toilet.
