Aspen Leaf is one of three cabins at the Cold Springs Work Center that welcomes guests with its homey vibe and remote mountain setting. Mountain biking and off-road vehicle trails are easily accessed here.
The cabin was built in the 1930s for use by Forest Service employees. Vehicles can easily access the area, but a 4WD may be required in October, depending on weather conditions.
The North Uncompahgre boasts an extensive ATV trail system known as the Divide Forks ATV complex. Over 50 miles of trails can be explored.
Mountain bikers make use of the popular Tabaguache Trail System, and in fall, hunters frequent the area. Hiking and horseback riding are also enjoyable activities.
This cabin has one bedroom and a bathroom with a flush toilet and shower. Sleeping accommodations include three twin-size beds and a queen sofa sleeper. Up to six guests may stay in this cabin, but extra cots and air mattresses are recommended.
The kitchen includes a propane stove and refrigerator, plus basic cooking and eating utensils like plates, knives, forks and pots. Cleaning supplies are also provided.
Drinking water is supplied but the cabin does not have electricity. Guests should bring propane lanterns, matches, bedding, toilet paper, dish towels, warm clothing, paper towels and tools for gathering and cutting firewood. Aspen Leaf Cabin is one of three cabins at the Cold Springs Work Center. One cabin may be occupied by Forest Service personnel.
Aspen Leaf Cabin sits in a field with scattered aspen and mountain shrub vegetation on the north end of the Uncompahgre National Forest. At 9,000 feet, the area offers crisp mountain air, mild days and chilly nights.
Black bears, mountain lions, marmots and deer are among the wild inhabitants. Please be aware of [bear safety.](http://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/gmug/learning/safety-ethics/?cid=fsbdev7_002715)
The nearest grocery store is in Grand Junction, 44 miles from the cabin.
Anglers looking for lake fishing can head to Big Creek Reservoir, about 14 miles from the cabin.
From Grand Junction, head south on Highway 50. Take a right on County Road 141 heading south for 14.5 miles. Make a sharp left on Divide Road. This road is not marked, but prior to turn, a sign reads "National Forest Access Divide Road, Uncompahgre Plateau." Follow this road for 19.6 miles and take a left on Forest Road 406 (where a sign says "Cold Springs Work Center"). Go a quarter-mile and then turn right on 406.1A. Cabin is a half-mile after turn, and Aspen Leaf is the first cabin on the left.
Have combination lock handy to enter the gate. Parking, for a maximum of three vehicles, is in front of the cabin.
These people always do a great job. Theonly criticism I have is that they do not always call to tell you what the costs will be. I had to make multiple calls to find out if they looked at my snowblower and how much the repairs were after the parts had been ordered. It has been awhile since I have been there because I contracted for lawn xare and snow removal.
DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING THERE. They keep your items for over three months with no communication. Order the wrong parts. Still no communication. We had to call several times and was constantly lied too. Pick up equipment only tofind bolts missing. Go back to them but get rudeness and disrespect. In response to you, you wererude. Plus the equipment was rusty when you returned it. It was not that way when we brought it in. You did not callus. My husband called you. Why do you lie? You never called us. We had to call you and then you were rude. Admit it. You were nasty. I explained about the bolts several times andshoqed pictures. You acted confused on what was needed. You were rude so you got my comment. Update: order parts from Amazon. Received in a week. Fixed it myself but yet they couldn't get the part and no communication and wonder why they got the review they did. Very unprofessional
Very happy with Aspen leaf.took a lawnmower in
Explained what I wanted them to do
Took a blower and weed trimmer in to.they said its 28,dollars just to look and find out what was wrong
That was fine it's posted also they called and said the blower and trimmer was not worth fixing the mower needed a tuneup, and otherthings.i wanted to say thankyou for the honesty. Excellent work. You have my business and very wonderful people
Everyone should go their thankyou
Fantastic. We were really impressed with the level of customer service, no-pressure advice, and ease of delivery of our new mower. I chose Aspen Leaf over hardware stores for service after the sale, and Aspen Leaf does repairs and routine service for mowers and other outdoor/landscaping equipment. Gary and his team really know their craft, and we will definitely be using Aspen Leaf in the future.
Purchased a new mower today. They loaded it into my truck, walked me through the features and how to use them, and provided me all my important documents in a swag bag. I look forward to purchasing additional equipment here in the spring.
