The pin on the map To help find the entrance can be confusing, but once you know where you’re going, you’re golden. Campsites are very large, the pit toilet was in good condition (though the lights didn’t work Nov 12&13, ‘22) and it was nice to have the non-potable water for cleaning. Camp was quiet and each site offered a picnic table and fire ring. Gate at the entrance is to be kept locked, which is nice to help keep people from coming in at their leisure.
Rima Ridge Rd. Is designated on the map for primitive camping. It was first come first served vs. registering online. I’m not sure if I had a designated campsite, but I enjoyed myself immensely. It’s nice to be deep into a wilderness
This place is nice and quiet! (At least during April) lots of trees, birds, rabbits. I built a fire from scratch from wood on the ground and scrap papers-it was fairly easy. The campsites closest to bathrooms are 1, 2, and 4 (behind it). Furthest from bathroom is 6, which is the site closest to the road where sometimes cars drive by. There’s also a beautiful/serene lake nearby to drive to. Not many campers here when I came! Definitely recommend if you like some privacy while camping.
This place is amazing. The best way to navigate to the campground is to use the shooting range as your landmark. Once you're at the shooting range it's basically a straight shot. You have to make a reservation so you can get the gate code but this is an amazing place to camp! We haven't had anyone in our reserved campsite, it has been fairly laid back. If primitive camping is your thing.... this is the place for you!
Clean, quiet, well-maintained off-grid campground. Toilet facility particularly clean. Six shaded campsites suitable for tent or small RV/travel trailer. We camped for three nights with a 23' travel trailer. We asked the Forest Service for advice on which site to reserve and were happy with their recommendation. Great value and location close to Daytona Beach. Don't let the juvenile corrections facility you'll pass on the way into the state forest or bear warnings at the camp site put you off :) We saw a wild turkey family and deer on our way to the camp. Gate security added peace of mind.
