The campsite is 0.9 miles off highway 14 in the historic town of Madrid and up to the mesa. Site 1 "The edge" is great for RV's and tall setups as well as tents and cars. The hill going to the site is short, approx. 0.2 ml. Its dirt and rock and a little steep but everything from bikes, motorcycles, sedans and buses can easily navagate without bottoming out, just take it slow. It has beautiful mesa views with plenty of privacy and a nice outhouse within 50 yards. Madrid and sister village, Cerrillos are loaded with places to explore on foot or by other means. Both towns are very rich in history, from past ocean existance to Native American civilizations, silver and gold mining to booming wartime coalmining industries, to ghost towns.

Beautiful view and the campground was very well kept and clean! The campground hosts were very nice and because we didn't have our own firewood when we stayed there they were very kind to give us some despite it being theirs. Definitely want to stay there again!
Loved it here. Camp hosts were amazing!!! Very helpful. This campground is quiet with a capital Q! Scenic drive from either direction (if pulling a camper, I do not suggest SR15 in the snow or rain (one lane and hairpin turns).
Good experience, I wish they had showers and the dump station was of service.
It was a great weekend with the family, weather was great cool morning and night and afternoon was bearable high 70's felt like 80's.
Fishing was ok a few bites, nephews caught one in the late evening, catch and release to small. You do need a fishing license before heading up there. You can always purchase it online, simple and easy. At the campsite no service, No WiFi.
On the high note campsites are very clean, best restrooms I ever seen. My hat goes of to the rangers who take care of the camp grounds..🙏👍
Although trees around are very dry much need of some rain for sure. Fire caution is High, so please be safe.i would most definitely be back again great times and great memories. 🙏🇺🇸
