The Sleeping Giant Picnic Site is located on the North Fork of the Shoshone River and has six sites with tables, a vault toilet, fire rings, cook grates, and food storage boxes. Nearby activities include fishing, hiking, and viewing and photographing wildlife and scenery. The Sleeping Giant Picnic Site is about three miles from the East Entrance to Yellowstone National Park. It's a great place to stop for lunch on your way to Yellowstone.
From Cody, travel west on U.S. Highway 14/16/20 for 48 miles to the picnic site, which is on the south side of the highway.
Great place to relax, spend time with family or friends. Just enjoy in nature
No trash can, no shed and grass was too tall and not proper. Place was not enjoyable at all
nice relaxing picnic point - sit around in the grass or treat your feet in the cool flowing stream. Saw a couple of fishermen too, so a peaceful spot for fishing too
Beautiful place to have a picnic. Sleeping Giant Picnic Area always seems to have tables available. They are spaced far enough apart to have privacy while picnicking.
A wonderful, serene, quiet, and absolutely stunning little area to rest or hang out. I stopped here to let my dog swim and ended up staying the whole day, there was just something about this place. Also being a tall human the name Sleeping Giant resonates with me and my life in a way. I would really love to know the story behind the name, next time I see a Ranger I’ll have to ask. A Ranger did come by and talked for a bit and was super nice and friendly but I forgot to ask about the name. I really wish you could camp here, the picnic sites are actually kind of set up like campsites so not sure if it used to be one or not and possibly turned into a picnic area due to heavy bear presence or flooding. But that’s pure speculation.
