We searched high and low to find a real working ranch (not a dude ranch) that checked all our boxes. Kara Creek Ranch came out on top of our list, and then when we spent a week there in October 2022 we found that there were more boxes that we didn’t even know existed!! We had a spectacular time and have booked to go back twice in 2023. Great staff and horses and food and accommodations and on and on and on….. Perfect place to be included in all the ranching activities. (Small note - bring all your toiletries. This isn’t a resort so no fancy little shampoo bottles! If you forget stuff there’s all sorts that’s been donated by previous guests). 9.999999 out of 10 - small deduction for the amount of cigarette smoke in the saloon on site (we’re non smokers).

Kata Creek Ranch is the perfect spot to live the real and authentic Cowboy life and to be part of the daily work on horseback with the cattle. The hospitality is great - as is the food - and the horses are amazing and save.the unique saloon provides a top opportunity to chill and chat with others and to listen to live music from time to time.

Our family absolutely loved our stay at the Kara Creek Ranch. We stayed there as a bridge between Mount Rushmore and Yellowstone and it easily won our hearts. We almost left my 13 year old daughter there to be a ranch hand. :D My 16 year old son really enjoyed it too.

Easily my favorite trip we've taken. We stayed here and absolutely enjoyed it. We were a little worried since had an 9 year old and a 7 year old who are city kids. However, they enjoyed it so much and till this day he says he plans on moving to Wyoming when he grows up. Everyone was so nice and our daughter got to ring the breakfast bell. Being able to see the stars at night was such an amazing experience. We had a picnic right outside our cabin and tossed a ball around, such a simple time. Being able to get away from the city life and come here was one of the best experiences of my life. We met Monty and he was such a delight. Thank you for giving us the experience we received.

Absolutely wonderful! We had a blast! When the horses were let out daily, they passed directly in front of our cabin. We were able to walk into the field with them. It was enchanted. The view of the ridge, the sky and the scenery in its totality was spectacular. The people who were working at the ranch were amazing! The other guests were from around the country and the world. It was so much fun. There's a saloon and a mercantile full of great merchandise; some new and some gently used. The horseback rides provided breathtaking views and incredible serenity. It literally brought me to tears. We're definitely going back!!
