Campsite: Brooks Lake Campground

Wonderfully serene area with gorgeous views from almost every campsite. Not crowded even on 4th of July weekend. Campsites are in good shape with bear boxes. The single downside is the heavy mosquito presence; I didn’t have any of that poison deet on hand and I couldn’t be outside at the campsite without getting swarmed same with my dog, so had to go back into town to get some poison. The natural bug spray I used did nothing, it usually works back east. Not the campsites fault, just be prepared. Also be prepared if coming in the summer for the sun, it may be 65-70 degrees tops but the sun will fry your skin in the afternoon up there. And the nights are pretty darn cold for tent camping even in July just keep that in mind. Didn’t see much of any wildlife besides birds and small critters though. Also cool hearing the horse sounds from the ranch up the hill. Lots of trout. Pristine streams all around the area. Highly recommend.

Campsite: Tongue Canyon Campground

This little area is such a magical place. There is something about being sandwiched between giant pillars and walls of rock as the river rushes by mercilessly. As for the campground, not sure I would even call it that. There are a few spots on the side of the road on the way to the trailhead that are nice little camping spots. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely loved camping here.. but it’s not your typical campground with amenities. And there was a ban on fires. I didn’t have time to do the hike but even walking from my campsite to the end of the road where the trailhead is was a wonderful experience with a lot to see. It’s surprising this place isn’t more well known, I mean I found by way of blind luck. But we should all try to keep it that way, the lack of tourists or many people in general was part of what made it so special. I promise you a walk down to the end of the road when the sun is setting will make you appreciate life and nature much more deeply. Anyways, sorry for the rant.. But this area is something very unique and special. Just be prepared there aren’t many campsites and there isn’t much shade.

PS - please pick up your trash. Not just here but everywhere. There wasn’t much but I had to pick up a few pieces along the road. Nobody wants to see that. Please do your best to keep our home planet clean. It’s very disheartening and honestly infuriating to see some of the most beautiful areas in Wyoming/Montana littered with trash. Please don’t deteriorate it’s beauty by being a lazy inconsiderate jerkoff. Thanks :)

Campsite: Sleeping Giant Campground

A wonderful, serene, quiet, and absolutely stunning little area to rest or hang out. I stopped here to let my dog swim and ended up staying the whole day, there was just something about this place. Also being a tall human the name Sleeping Giant resonates with me and my life in a way. I would really love to know the story behind the name, next time I see a Ranger I’ll have to ask. A Ranger did come by and talked for a bit and was super nice and friendly but I forgot to ask about the name. I really wish you could camp here, the picnic sites are actually kind of set up like campsites so not sure if it used to be one or not and possibly turned into a picnic area due to heavy bear presence or flooding. But that’s pure speculation.
