About Campground

Whispering Surf Campground at Bass Lake embraces the idea of old-fashioned camping - forested with oak, pine and white birch and nestled between the clear blue waters of Bass Lake and the white sands of Lake Michigan. Tucked away in the North Woods, it's a slow-moving pace where you can relax and enjoy the best of what camping has to offer.

The historic Lodge offers recreation for the entire family and is available for group events. Our private beach on Bass Lake is a short walk through the park and the beautiful beaches of Lake Michigan are accessible by a walk down Lakeshore Drive or Sunset Lane. Our dock on Bass Lake is available to tie off your watercraft on a first-come, first-served basis. Canoe and kayak rentals are available. Forget the marshmallows? Stop by our camp store for S'more makings, ice, firewood, and more. Free WiFi is available throughout the park.

Whispering Surf offers a children's playground and group fire pit for evening socializing. Your well-behaved and leashed pet is welcome at Whispering Surf (max 2 dogs) and will enjoy the Bark Park. Our campground is guaranteed clean and friendly!

**Reservations are strongly recommended for all weekends & holidays, and for groups.**

We have been going to Whispering Surf for about four years, usually after Labor Day. We love the peaceful atmosphere…a wonderful place to relax! The campground passed into new ownership this year and the new owners (Jeff and Lisa) are every bit as friendly and helpful as the previous owners; taking you to your spot, helping guide you in, picking up trash throughout the day and delivering ice and/or firewood when requested.

The campground is tucked into the woods on Bass Lake with about a fifteen minute walk from Lake Michigan public access beach. We did not use the common building but it has a pool table, gathering area, clean showers among other things. The park infrastructure is excellent with upgraded modern electric pedestals with cable tv if you wish, newer faucets and newer lidded sewer inlets with threaded flanges. Lots are level gravel pads with lots of mature trees. Just a wonderful place to camp…try it, you’ll like it!

This was my first time ever tent camping! Normally I am a car camping person, but I decided to give a good old tent a try. I loved it!! This campground was absolutely amazing for me and my 2 best friends. As 3 women sleeping in a tent in the woods, we felt very very safe. The staff does drive by checks on everyone throughout the day and this not only helped us develop a relationship with the staff but also made us feel very safe. The campground was very well taken care of and clean. My friends and I enjoyed renting kayaks from the campground and paddling along bass lake. The staff was really the best part. Everyone we met was so happy, helpful, and really made our stay amazing. They would even bring your firewood to your campsite for you! The campsite store was so helpful and had everything we needed! Thank you to to the staff for making our trip calm and safe. We will definitely be back soon!

For my first time vacationing by myself, my experience here was simple, kind, down-to-earth, and chill. If you are in the mood to do a lot of adventuring, eating, or shopping, the nearby village of Pentwater has a lot to offer. The campground here is a very relaxing and is a perfect place to rest at the end of your long day of enjoying this little part of Michigan. Overall, I had a great time and I am definitely coming back when I have the chance.

I loved this campground! Stayed here for 7 days and loved every minute of it. Yes it is "tight" in some spaces but their service and the friendliness of other campers made up for it. Our specific site was not as tight as others so I can't really comment too much on it but it is what it is. Bass lake beach was nice, a short drive or less than a mile walk to the public beach on lake Michigan was well worth it. Bathrooms were clean. Nice playground for the kids and tons of shady tree cover. It's a nice quiet and peaceful campground, we felt very safe here and would recommend it to anyone considering. We will definitely try and return next time we're up that way.
