Watoga offers primitive camping to nice cabins, along with fishing, hiking, boating, and more outdoor activities! I think it is a beautiful place to simply "get away and relax"! Loved it!
Wonderful state park!! We were in the very last cabin in our area (#29) and all the other cabins were empty which really gave us some peace and quiet. Had several "park deer" who were obviously used to being fed come right up to us. Take your gravity loungers and go on top of the dam for some great star gazing. There is also a mountain top within the park called T. M. Cheek overlook which is a great place to watch the sunset and stars. I would definitely recommend this park however, the cookware wasn't in the best shape and there was nothing to scrub them with.
My visit to Watoga State Park was a delightful experience that allowed me to immerse myself in nature's beauty. The park offers some truly scenic views that left me in awe of the surrounding landscapes. Being close to nature and surrounded by the serenity of the outdoors made my stay exceptionally refreshing.
About the Park:
Watoga State Park offers a range of activities for nature enthusiasts. The riverside camping spots provided a unique and tranquil camping experience, and waking up to the soothing sounds of the river was a real treat. The park also boasts good hiking trails, allowing me to explore and appreciate the natural wonders that the area has to offer. For those looking for a comfortable stay, the cabins were nice and provided a cozy retreat after a day of adventure.
I had a wonderful time at Watoga State Park, and I highly recommend it to anyone seeking a nature-filled getaway. Whether you're camping by the riverside or staying in one of the lovely cabins, the park offers an idyllic escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, providing a perfect opportunity to connect with the great outdoors. 🏞️🏕️🚶♂️
Stunning autumn destination, natural beauty everywhere in this campground. Sites are graciously spaced. We were at Riverside Campground and on a river site. Accessibility to the Greenbrier River bike trail is a short bike ride from the campground. Hiking trails and arboretum are a must do.
Campground showers are clean and plenty of room to put all the necessities, best I’ve seen in any campground. Watoga also has laundry facilities.
The campground is amazing. You’ll need to drive to Marlington to find restaurants, shopping etc.
Watoga State Park is beautiful. It's the perfect place to stay while exploring the area. No Verizon cell service within park, but wifi is available at the campground check-in stations at both campgrounds and the visitor center. Beaver Creek Campground: basic shower house (what you'd expect for a dated facility), convenient dishwashing station. Campsites between the check-in station and shower house offer little privacy but some are within range of the wifi.
Take advantage of the dark skies to do some stargazing.
Pack carefully. It's a drive to big box stores. Plus, with so much great hiking, you don't want to waste time driving to buy forgotten supplies. :)
