From jct US 10 & Hwy 49 & CR-A: Go 3 mi S on CR-A, then 1/4 mi W on CR-EE, then 2-1/4 mi W on Lake Spencer Rd, then 1/2 mi S on CR-E, then 500 feet E on Southwood Dr.
Stopped in to check out some possible sites for camping next year, found that most of the campers are stacked like cord wood. Not a bad campground, just didn't get the vibe that it was for us.
It's a party campground for people nearing retirement. If you're hoping for relaxation around the fire, you're not going to get it.
The permanent residents spend most evenings, 7pm to 11pm, driving around the property playing music while blasting train horn sound effects and a wind-up fire siren. This is apparently a "thing" here, with the owners selling can cozies hyping up this behavior.
The facilities look outdated, with some pit toilets still in service. Water is clean and plenty of pressure. No issues with electric supply. Pool is adequate and maintained.
Used to have the best fish fry… went last week and it has completely changed. Way smaller the baked and friend fish was not good… ever since the new owners took over portions got smaller and prices got higher. They charged us for extra tartar sauce that they didn’t even give us. Will not go back which is so sad because it used to be the best.
I have been coming to Rustic Woods since February and I've always had amazing service. Although this weekend was very different. The older woman who was working didn't acknowledge me for 13 minutes. And there was only 7 other people in the bar. Took an extra 5 minutes for the drink. Which was a jack and coke and the woman didn't even know what a jack and coke was? God, I'm sure I can account for everyone when I say, I'm gonna miss that little red head. So personable, attentive and always had my drink ready before I sat at the bar asking about my day. In addition the food was atrocious. They were out of half the menu. The food took way too long for what I ordered and for how many people were in this bar. The fries came out ice cold! What a shame. I loved coming to this bar. I would stay for hours, until nearly bar close. I don't know if I can recommend this bar, or campground to anyone anymore. It just continues to go downhill with every new owner.
First time back to the restaurant in two years. Had a wonderful meal last time we went. The fish fry is definitely not what it used to be though. Overcooked and overbreaded. Drinks were reasonably priced. Probably won't go back.
