No pets allowed here but the locals are allowed to? And not have them on leads. My service dog was attacked by a pitbull on 11/28/23 at 0730. At the end of the day, the park employee threatens to throw me out because my dog barked at him. Small community around the park, but the park employee doesn’t know him, never seen him? The people in the neighborhood I talked with have seen him on the road heading to the entrance picking up trash. Never once did the park employee ask how I or my dog were or what happened. He couldn’t care less. The first interaction was him driving up to my campsite. Stopping on the road and yelling from the back of the truck “is your dog a service animal?” The Sumter Co Sheriff Deputy responded he was and she saw his ID. He gets in his truck and drives away. To me, that suggests that he went to inform the dog owner. He came back about 15 minutes later and heard that animal control was on their way, he leaves again. Later on he sees me and my dog and drives to us aggressively and stops abruptly setting my dog into protective mode. He asks “what kind of service animal is that?” I ask for surveillance video from the gate and he tells me no then goes “if I have one complaint about your dog, I’m throwing you out” Again, locals can have pets in the park? 18 years in the military. 100% disabled. My dog gets attacked and I get injured fighting it off, he’s giving me an attitude? I’m just another tourist, I guess. I’m waiting on Denver’s supervisor to respond to me before contacting ADA lawyers. The Sumter County Sheriff’s department is still searching for the person & dog. They are exceptional and compassionate, not like the park employee
UPDATE: I talked with a couple investigators from the Forestry Department. They took my statement and I got another apology from the office, nothing from the campground manager. They took the statement and absolutely nothing happened.
It's was a awesome place to stay for the weekend 😎 🙌 😀 the bathrooms need a lot of books really
We stayed for 6 days. Well managed camp, ranger comes through every day. Well maintained and super friendly! Water at each site, we took our canoe through the river to sliver lake then up to hog island where we got off, it was beautiful! And a great price for the amenities! Showers plenty of bathrooms, and cleaned daily!!! Definitely recommend!
