From I-75 (exit 309) & Hwy 476B/673: Go 1-1/2 mi E on CR 673.
We stayed here because we needed to fill a few days between places and were escapees members. The park is fine, definitely worn and needs a host of maintenance issues. The staff were incredibly awful! Marcy was downright rude and hostile. I’m glad I came with low expectations and I doubt I’ll be back in this area but if so I’d dry camp at Walmart first! As a full timer I’ve stayed in many places and this was the absolute worst.
Stayed for the night but would definitely stay longer. Staff was so friendly, beautiful park in the trees on off a quiet road. Did laundry and was not only very inexpensive, but the dryers dried everything so quickly!
Sumter Oaks is a relaxing escape, surrounded by beautiful live Oaks and fan palms. The organic landscaping is a refreshing change from your typically landscaped place.
There is a small office where you check in, and a large recreation room where activities are held. There is no pool or sauna or hot tub... It is not a resort, it is an RV park.
While it seems to be in the middle of nowhere, there is a good amount of shopping available within a few miles.
There are a few attractions in the area such as the date battlefield historic State Park and Florida national cemetery, But this is really the kind of place to kick back and relax and get away from it all...
Sumter Oaks RV Park is promoted on the website as being "friendly, comfortable, and welcoming atmosphere." I thinks is only fair to rate the park on the merit of what it is purported to be.
First, friendly. This is probably true if you don't have children but the manager there Marci doesn't like kids and doesn't want them in her park. If you take the time to review the other negative reviews there are all interactions with families and the manager.
Comfortable. It's hard to be comfortable at a place your family isn't welcome or wanted.
Welcoming Atmosphere. Every other guest we interacted with was friendly and complimentary of my kids behavior. The lady working the front desk was very nice and welcoming when we arrived. However, on day 3 when Marci was in our face yelling at us when we didn't move sites quick enough that was a less than welcoming feeling. The maintenance guy who seems to be nice enough standing awkwardly behind her while she did her thing, like some sort of low rent body guard, also didn't add to the welcoming feeling.
Lastly, the park is maintained next to the road but beyond the roads within the park have tons of potholes. Sites are not cleaned between campers; my patio had a lot of leaves and there was trash in my site. The bathhouse is old but a little paint and a good cleaning could probably turn it around.
In summation, don't stay at the park if you have a family. If you're 55+ looking for a cheap park this is the place for you. The manager doesn't care if you're escapees members, about Florida law or anything other than letting you know she's in charge so avoid her.
We just bought an RV a year ago, and Sumter Oaks was our first trip and stay at an RV park. I couldn't ask for a nicer experience. The park is very clean, and is so quiet. We completely enjoy our stay here.
I-75 is less than a mile away. Tampa is an hour, Orlando just over an hour.
The rates are very reasonable and include water. They bill you for the electricity you use. Wifi is available for very reasonable rate.
Sumter Oaks is definitely a home away from home for us.
