Nice site. It is split up so is bigger than first glance. On coming in past the check station and first porta potty you will see a sign that says equestrian campsite. There are 4-5 campsites that will accommodate a horse trailer or bigger RV. If you keep going up that road, before getting to the 21ton bridge with the ramp for the airboat bypass, you will see the second porta potty. To the right (if bridge is ahead) there is a road (blocked from this end) just past the water pump (Non potable) that leads to the spots mentioned earlier, however along the road there are quite a few primitive campsites that will accommodate smaller rigs or tents. To the left there is a large open area that has an additional 4-6 campsites for RV or equestrian. Nice area. Plenty of trails and water for canoeing. Cell service is 1bar LTE+ but decent bandwidth. Porta potties are very clean and we'll stocked with tp.
Perfect getaway for primitive camping. Small rv or pop ups and tents. Entrance road and path to get to sites won't let a big rv get through. Need 4 wheel drive for equestrian sites. Water needs to be treated.
** Must get free permit for gate code at least one week (5-7 days) before arriving. ***
If you want to be alone in nature this may be your place. Great for riding bikes on gravel roads, and hiking to see wildlife.
This is a really nice WMA. We went on a weekday, and so we pretty much had the forest to ourselves. The forest is beautiful and set aside the aerial traffic above, it's a quiet, peaceful place. The roads are good for hiking or biking. We stayed on the limestone two track to avoid ticks and chiggers. (it's that time 😬), but there are also side trails to explore.
↪️ There's a picnic table near the parking area and another with a grill at the hunter check-in station.
↪️ 🚻 There's a porta-potty near the primitive campground 🏕
Great campsites, loud at night with the airboats. Great hiking trails, saw some deer.
Beautiful nature area, great for primitive camping, no showers, but overall a great place to camp.
