About Campground

Welcome to Ramble at Great Sand Dunes, your new basecamp. The location is strikingly beautiful and vast: 320 acres of rolling sand dunes nestled up against the Sangre de Cristo Mountains at 7,550 feet, This campground is just a twenty minute drive to the entrance of the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve, where you can hike dunes up to 750 feet tall. It's also at the base of Colorado's fourth tallest mountain, 14,345-foot Blanca Peak.

Ramble is a dog friendly campground so bring your furry friends. There is a pet post for you to link up your pet at each site.

The Welcome Center will be the first place you'll stop, which includes an interactive photo opportunity, our park map, and informative and interesting information about the local community and surrounding region.

Just a short distance from every campsite is our modern bath house- thoughtfully designed with private bathrooms, showers, and wif access. It also includes a QR-code-accessible mini store for easy purchases of firewood, toiletries and Ramble merchandise. Inside the bathrooms you’ll find flushing toilets, toilet paper, seat protectors, fold down changing tables, sinks, hand soap, hooks, mirrors, soft lighting, and locking doors. On the side of the bathhouse are our open air concept shower stalls complete with hot water, benches, towel hooks and complimentary body wash and shampoo.

The dump station is located just past the bathhouse and can accommodate disposal of sewage, waste water and includes a spigot for easy clean up. This station is complementary to Ramble guests.

As far as activities go, there’s plenty to do. Rent a bike or bring your own- we’ve got our very own three mile gravel path for you to shred that provides direct access points to local bike and Bureau of Land Management trails. There is also a 40 acre, 9-hole disc golf course perfect for all levels onsite. Horseshoe pits, corn hole tables, board games, and other activities are also available. And if that’s not enough -- Great Sand Dunes National Park, Medano Creek, Zapata Falls, Hooper Pool, and San Luis Valley are all just a short drive away.

Ramble at Great Sand Dunes falls within the IDA International Dark Sky Park region, so be prepared to enjoy some ridiculously starry nights. If it gets too dark, our entire campground utilizes thoughtfully designed lighting that won’t detract from nature’s light show.

Ramble provided a great campground for my partner and I to celebrate our 1 year anniversary. Campgrounds were surprisingly super clean, as well as the restroom/shower area. They provided an assortment of resources for us such as a sun shade spot at our site, a cart to pack/unpack the car, two sets of chairs, a fire pit stove, and grill.

The only reason why this review didn’t get 5 stars is because the road into the campground was a mess… the dirt road had so much damage that we could only drive about 5-10 miles per hour (fyi we were in a jeep wrangler so a small sedan isn’t a factor here). Additionally, the water pump by our campsite was broken however, when notified, a ramble worker came and gave us a gallon of water.

The night sky was also a huge plus! They aren’t kidding when they say it’s a certified dark skies region.

Great site! Highly highly recommend especially if visiting the Sand Dunes is on your radar! Be aware though that the Sand Dunes National Park is roughly a 30 minute drive away!

From approach to exit, Ramble at Sand Dunes National Park is a thoughtfully designed experience. Camp sites are appropriately integrated with the landscape while shade structures delicately enhance the natural valley setting. This unique setting provided our family a camping experience like none other. Aside from phenomenal star gazing, the most beautiful and jaw dropping moments were at sunset and sunrise when the surrounding mountain ranges provided stunning southwestern silhouettes. The kid’s favorite part (aka what they argued over the most) was pulling the wagon to transport camping items along the path from the car to the camp site.

After trying for 3 years straight for the spot I wanted at Pinon Flats campground, I stumbled upon Ramble. I have a 28’ trailer and it was great - water and sewer included. No electric but we dry camp all the time so not an issue. HUGE sites, camp kitchens, hammocks, wagons, amazing fire pits with lounge chairs and THE coolest bike and hiking trails. Forgot your bike? No problem, Ramble had plenty you can borrow. Need a shower or flush toilet? Done. Less than 20 minutes to the dunes. Ramble has ruined me for all other campsites.

We had a great time camping at Ramble. The site was well maintained and the location was awesome. I loved the shade structure, lights, and solo stove fire pit. We had a bit of a wind situation, but obviously that was completely out of their control. Having access to showers and a few necessities from their kiosk was a great touch and really appreciated. When we used all the water at our site, they were incredibly responsive in bringing us some more. I would absolutely Camp here again!

My family of four spent two nights at Ramble at Great Sand Dunes group site with my friends. Everything was absolutely exceptional. The amenities were perfect (hot showers, grills, flushing toilets, potable water… the list goes on!) and the views were breathtaking. We loved the bike path and the provided bikes were so fun. My son said he wished we could stay forever. We can’t with to come back!
