The City Lake is located approximately 2 miles east of U.S. 54 and 1.5 miles north of Il 106 in sections 9 & 16 of Newburg Township or approximately 2 miles east of Pittsfield.
Nice quiet lake with lots of woods and good fishing. Lots of fishing opportunities from shore and from fishing docks, but not on the same side of the lake as the campground. Grass is mowed regularly and the entire lake is clean.
I'm giving four stars because of the rules and policies and most recently just put in a kayak ramp which is very handy.
We came in the back where gps took us. We were on motorcycle pulling our bike camper. There should have been a sign. It was very sketchy going that way. We were so scared our bike was going into the lake. No where to turn around. We made it. So stressed out when we found the first camp sites we took the first one. Big mistake. There were horses camping 2 sites over. People were nice, but the horses were being horses. Kicking the horse trailer all night long. We got 0 😴. Then had to go pull money from the atm in town before we headed out to Arkansas. The lady we talked to at city hall could have told us that. What we remember of our extremely fast conversation was, that someone would be around to collect the money. We just thought it would be a card. I take cards on my cell phone , so we didnt know it was going to be cash. It was a horrible experience and of course we paid to go through that. Worst night stay anywhere. Bathrooms were horrible as well. I skipped showering till we got to Arkansas. If your looking to spend time fishing or boating its fine, especially if you have a motor home. Just make sure you come through the right entrance.
I enjoy the Pittsfield lake and feel it has so much more to offer than meets the eye. Fishing, camping, and numerous trails if you want to take a walk in peace and quiet yet only a few minutes from the closest town Pittsfield.
