I really liked this campground. There was a lot of activities. 2 pools, lagoon for fishing, volleyball, tennis, baseball, basketball, rec hall and miniature golf. They also had walking trails and they had bikes the kids could use while camping (they were weathered but the kids didn't seem to mind). This campground was clean, friendly and quiet. The staff were helpful and all the other campers were friendly. The store had cute camping knickknacks, shirts, blankets, food items and of course slushes and more. We will definitely go back.

The owner and her goons are very confrontational. We were harassed by her while leaving the campsite to pick some things up from a nearby gas station. While minding our own business and going less than 5 MPH. We were yelled at by the owner to slow down. I was there for 1 night and all I heard were people at the front yelling at cars to slow down (none of which were going fast). I have kids and nephews and neices there and would be upset if I felt cars were going fast. The reviews you see about the owner are true!

My advice would be if you decide to camp here bring your golf cart so you can whip around like their staff. If you decide to drive a car get out and push it in the campsite and you may be able to avoid getting assaulted.

*This is my personal opinion--not representative of my entire large family, so please don't ban my entire family from returning because of my personal negative experiences at your campground*

We have been coming here for 5-7 years, I can’t remember exactly. I have been let down with our experience most years. The workers here fly through on their golf carts going 15+ mph, but SCREAM at a car if it goes 7 or 8 mph (and yes we watch the speedometer). They also don't police the bicycles at all who like to fly through, cutting people off.

We have had issues with them mowing the playground going WAY too fast, mowing over rocks, shooting them out AT kids playing on the playground.

The camp sites are uneven, and there are huge areas with no grass leaving only sand and mud. I’m currently handicapped because of an injury and it’s incredibly hard to navigate because of the uneven ground.

One year we had no electricity all day long, then the next day lost it again for a couple hours. It seems like with as large of a campground as this is, generators would be on site in case of an all-day outage like that.

The water-tank staff this year continued spraying the pickup-bed full of children (some older kids, some as young as 3) even after the little ones started crying because they did NOT want to be sprayed.

This year we were disappointed in the pool maintenance, but this was apparently due to the death of their maintenance head, so that's understandable. The deep pool was ok, but very cold, and too deep for little kids. The shallow pool had to be closed for shocking for part of our stay which was a big bummer for our kids.

I, personally, will not be returning.

I’m am writing this in response to Green River Oaks response to my husband Wes Phillip’s review. We can understand having to shock a pool and it’s great you have another, however as far as it being heated, it was most certainly not, as you can see by similar posts from other individuals. Interestingly we were in our camper all Friday night, because there wasn’t much else to do considering the deep pool was too cold and might I also add dirty. We couldn’t ride bikes because they either had flat tires and or no breaks. I even overheard children complaining about them, sure they are free but if you can’t use them who cares how free they are, and we picked up each of us a handful of them to try and they were all in awful shape. Lastly, we might have tried to play pickleball if it wasn’t set aside for the next day’s events. Your web sight claims that you have all these amenities and we were let down in every situation. So yes, we were in our camper all Friday night all you had to do was knock. Lastly my husband didn’t have this in his review but the bathroom and shower house closest to us was in severe need of cleaning, the trash can was full, and needed to be swept and mopped. I figured someone would at least get to it by later evening but we were up early to leave Saturday morning and it still had not been attended to. So I would never wish to camp there again and we gave you 80.00 dollars of hard earned money for the 2 nights we decided were not worth staying for and I’m not a person to waste money. Short and sweet, this place is cozy, filled with good people, good events, activities, and good maintenance year over year (especially most recent years).

Full review for those who want the real details:

If you’re looking for a Campground that’s in pristine condition or filled with amusement park like attractions then that is not this place ~ Why? Those places come with hefty price tags, overpacked populations, and strict rules.

Yes, the website can be updated with most recent amenity conditions but knowing we should not always trust what we read on the internet; pick up a phone and call. The place is ran by honest and good people.

Yes, they may be strict in relation to the speed limits of cars but not golf carts but this is for the safety of the hundreds of kids who get to experience outdoors in a way they rarely do in the world we live in today. It is a safe environment with the opportunity for kids to be kids. If the golf carts are moving faster from time to time, then that only equates to more productivity and increased ability to provide quicker service to their guests.

Personally, I have been coming to Green River Oaks for nearly 30 years since I was a kid. Now I bring my children multiple times a year and to watch the joy from the freedom alone they get to experience during our stay is priceless. Everyone loves to be a critic because it’s easy, but taking the time to look for the beauty and share it with others is overlooked far too often these days. We can choose to see the bad or choose to see the good. While no place is perfect, I would share from my experience that this place is special and it has unique potential to help shift how one chooses to view what is most important/precious in life.
