About Campground

There are four canoe campsites available on the Wisconsin shore of the Menominee River. Signs with a canoe and tent symbol mark the campsites. These sites are for groups of six persons or less. On the Wisconsin side of the river, campsites are only available by reservation.

At each site there is a fire ring, a cleared spot to pitch a tent, benches and a primitive latrine. No non-designated island camping is permitted on Wisconsin islands in the river.

We stayed at the Pemebonwon site over Memorial Day weekend. I'm posting pictures of the site and entrance because I couldn't find ANY pictures anywhere, so I'm hoping these could help someone hoping to stay here!

The 1st photo is the marking to the parking lot off the main road, it doesn't indicate for the campsite. We actually had a local man help us out, because otherwise we wouldn't have known!

The path from the parking lot to the site is about 1.5 miles, instead of the stated 1 mile. It's fairly hilly, nothing too hard but it isn't a flat trail.

It does have a primitive toilet, which I didn't see mentioned in the reservation, so that's a bonus.

The ticks and mosquitoes were plentiful. Please prepare yourself accordingly for with bug spray and several tick checks a day.

This spot is gorgeous, and I do recommend for those who are into primitive camping spots.
