The niland Marina is a mostly abandoned marina since the Salton Sea has receded back from the boat ramp. There are still plenty of places to camp in the area.
The boat ramp doesn't make contact with the water and there is no restroom. Just an abandoned park. Good place to watch sun set tho.
Entirely abandoned, with no useable bathroom literally down the road from a boarder patrol checkpoint and near some possibly abandoned local residences
However it has great views of the Salton Sea and nice photos ops for those wanting to see graffiti and abandoned structures as well as bird watchers
It has been a couple years since I visited, the water has now receded hundreds of feet from the mouth of the launch channel
Niland Marina is officially closed and no longer functions as a boat launch, all the former changing room and shower areas are decaying and very interesting to photograph. This beach is safe to walk on (some areas on the Salton Sea coast are too soft to safely walk to the shore). You can observe the fish bone sand and abandoned seaside attractions really easily here. There are small groups of plovers and a few seagulls hanging around too!
Fifty years ago, the marina was a popular place, with 500+ campers and 200 to 300 boats launching on holiday weekends. The people left when the water receded, leaving a handful of abandoned buildings and infrastructure to decay under the blistering desert sun.
