Located west of Shelbyville just off US-131 at Exit 59, Hidden Ridge RV Resort is easy to find!
We stayed in early May and the park was absolutely packed. I was impressed how clean and well kept everything was. There are a lot of rules and you could tell. There were no out of control golf carts with yelling teenagers or rowdy drunk adults. Everybody was courteous and polite. There are a number of seasonal sites but you have to look hard to find them. They are interspersed with the rest of the community and are maintained very clean and orderly. This was a nice surprise.
Our site was paved, level, and was easily wide enough for our camper and stairs. We did not have a patio but our "lawn" was nicely maintained and spacious. The hookups were in good working order except for the water. We had 2 hose bibs; one leaked slightly and the other needed a screwdriver to turn it on. We used the one that dribbled with no issue. I liked that the connections were not low on the pole. The pole was strangely placed at the front of the site next to our truck. Water was not an issue but I had to break out the 50amp extension cord to reach. I should be happy I got a workout! The sewer connection was PVC and in good shape. Be forewarned the place is a maze. Keep the map in your vehicle. Finding sites is not a problem because there are signs, however leaving is another issue. There are no "Exit this way" signs. In an emergency it could be a real problem. I found by total accident that if you fire up Waze it will guide you out of the park. Google not so much. If I had one thing that annoyed me the dumpsters are only at the front by the office, on the way IN. When you are leaving with camper in tow you have to swing back into the incoming lanes to drop your trash and do a U-turn in the parking lot to head back to the exit. For such a large campground to not have a trash repository in the back near the store and bathrooms seems a missed opportunity.
We will come back this is a very nice park! We camped at Sun Retreats Gun Lake in a Travel Trailer.
lovely camp sites, but beware of rd noise on the sites bordering the highway. most sites were fine. Some noise, but in all, we did not mind it.
Nice park . Clean and well kept . Gun Lake area is very nice . The Big Problem with this place is No Wi-Fi . Do not Accept . May be why Sun Resorts stock is Way Down . Also too many Seasonals are adding too Much Junk to their sites . Starting to look like a Trailer Park . It is Shameful as it could be Great .
Ahhh, another Friday night, another weekend of sound systems booming on golf carts, screaming teenagers, drunken adults hootin' and hollerin', and Mama in the golf cart yelling "It's 10:58(pm), we've got TWO MINUTES TO PARTY!!"
I agree with all the reviews that say it's a beautiful park and the staff are all sooo nice, all true. Unfortunately, when the weekend hits you can forget about a quiet night around the campfire, gazing into the flames, as all of the above will ruin it for you. The Weekenders have the impression, clearly never corrected, that they can do whatever they want in this park right up until quiet hour at 11:00pm. So in spite of the beauty of the park, you may as well save your money, book a state park site and listen to rowdy neighbors for much cheaper, just sayin'...
Followup to owner's response: Nothing ever changes.
Followup to end of season:
I gave this place a 2 because beautiful grounds don't make up for entitled seasonal guests who believe they can do anything they want. At one point my neighbor asked his neighbor on the other side of him if he could just please keep it down. He was told, "I've been coming to this park for 10 years! I'll do whatever I please!" And there you have it.
When the seasonal Weekenders arrive, all hell breaks loose. For 2 days, EVERY WEEKEND, they rule the park, their teenage kids scream around the park in golf carts with stereos blasting, and sometimes to entertain them, the park will put on a live concert.
The band has enough amplification to reach the city of Grand Rapids so if you're actually IN the park, you're going to hear the concert whether you want to or not. Two hours of mindnumbing thumping of bass and screeching of horrific proportions from a band I wouldn't waste my time with, even if it is free. It will then be followed by an hour of concertgoers drunkenly finding their way home.
If you're looking for a party through the entire summer season, every weekend, stay here. If not, stay somewhere else, because no amount of beautiful grounds can compensate for your peace of mind.
