Gesundheit! resides on a 300-acre pristine tract of farm and mountain land in rural West Virginia, with gardens, meadows, creeks, waterfalls, a lake, and clean air and water. Our buildings are stimulating, yet the surrounding natural environment is even more inspiring. With more than two miles of trails through a beautiful hardwood forest, your stay can be spent in close proximity with nature. The beautiful Greenbrier River and an historic covered bridge is a 15 minute walk away. The small town of Hillsboro (birthplace of Nobel Prize winning author Pearl S. Buck) is 5 miles away.
Originally acquired by Patch and his fellow board members of the Gesundheit! Institute non-profit 501(c)3 in the 80's, this tract of land is the 3rd and final location of G!. The hospital/clinic here is only partially completed and despite receiving 0$ from the Hollywood movie "Patch Adams, starring Robin Williams, was funded thus far entirely by other donors and the hard work of Patch himself.
Activities include camping, fishing, hiking, canoeing, swimming, campfires, biking, tubing and much more.
From Locust Creek Road, look for the gesundheit Institute sign and turn into the gravel driveway. Driver past the fire engine and first buildings on your left. You will see campsites on the left with picnic tables as you continue up the gravel road curving through our hayfield.
Even though I have never been there and only seen the Movie based off of Patch Adam's I have to say thank you so much Patch you made the stay for me in the hospital In Germany and in the Us alot easier because even though being sick and in the hospital in and out it was nice to know that the focus of your vision was to help the sick even in deep times and still laugh and forget that one second one is sick. Thank you so much
Simply perfect . I've never been there but I'm.a taxi driver and I suffer from anxiety. So in my taxi I have sensory lights and an atmosphere to help people. because making people happy is a free medicine money can't buy. And yet my local council are wanting me to stop doing what I'm doing because of rules. just like the movie. And like patch. I will never ever stop doing what I believe in and that's spreading happiness.
We stopped in there on Monday 8/21 but nobody was home except the dog who was kind enough to greet us. We'll definitely stop back in again.
Beautiful place with a really good purpose. We drove past the area because of the movie "Patch Adams". Unfortunately the place only served as a pilot project from 1971 to 1984, so they don't see any patients anymore, until a new hospital is built. I can therefore only encourage everyone to help donate to the project, and support Patch Adam's amazing work ❤️
The most peaceful, beautiful camping trip i’ve ever been on. Too much emotional healing, sobbed and threw up (partially altitude sickness lmao) and had to leave my group early. would give 10 stars if possible
