Actual more of a 3.5 star. The park is showing its age. The fencing is old and rotting. The roads are dusty and gravel. The sites are quite long and wide enough. The park just needs a little TLC. Update old rotting wood, picnic tables and work on the roads. Otherwise it’s a good overnight stop. We would stay again. You can tell the park was quite nice in it’s early days. Lots of road construction around the area. Be careful navigating the roads. Some big dips turning in and out of the park.
We enjoyed Fort Amarillo! The pull thru sites make settling in and leaving easy. Laundry area was very clean. The indoor pool is a good size and the equipment is a nice addition. There is a large fenced in yard with a playground, and although the play equipment was pretty worn, my kids enjoyed the use of it. Hosts were were friendly and we enjoyed the landscaping of the entrance and pond area!
My husband and I stayed here and fell in love with it. As soon as you pull up to the park it is inviting, it has fantastic charm and character, you can tell the owner of the park took tremendous pride in the development. The entire campground is well maintained, and has a ton of amenities. The sites are well laid out, clean, spacious, and easy to pull into. Even the dogs have nice areas to play and do their business. Making reservations was simple, we were able to get our first night with just a few hour's notice. The pricing is beyond fair for the service you receive. The owner and staff are very accommodating and the gift shop is adorable. We liked it so much we stayed 2 more nights. September 2023.
Our experience here was great. We spent a couple nights here will checking out Amarillo during our road trip. Sites were wide enough and level, and well arranged. The bathrooms were very nice, clean and up to date. The pond, paths, and patios at center of the park are a peaceful place to relax. There is a bit of road noise from I-40, but it is more like white noise than a major distraction. There is a lot of woodwork that needs replacement or a fresh coat of paint, but they seemed to be in the process of addressing that.
Nice campground with very large spots and additional parking on your spot for a second vehicle. Indoor pool was nice. Indoor workout room was nice as well. Has a cute little gift shop. The grounds were kind of messy. Lots of leaves but it was winter and not peak season.
