Can't complain about the crowds. Made it there a few hours before dark in late Sept. Literally the only ones camping. Lots of spaces that have concrete pads and fire pits.
We set the tent up on one and quickly realized that the concrete was radiating heat from the days sun. It finally dissipated around 9:00p. Night temp was very tolerable. Dog loved running around.
No fee no permits necessary. First come first serve
No water, no place for trash. Hauled ours out, but it looks like everyone's been mindful of that.
What a hidden jewel this place is! Super location for springboarding into Death Valley National park. Many pads to choose from, so you can have privacy if you so choose, or park wherever you want. Nice level roads which accomodate any size rig easily. We stayed here almost a week, and no one harassed us at all, and it felt very safe. We slept quite well, it is nice and quiet, as you are set back from the highway quite far. Enjoyed our time here in this abandoned mining colony.
Awesome little gem! We stayed at The Pads for two nights. It was quiet and convenient to Death Valley NP. We had no one around us which was awesome. Read the review about the history of the location by Aura Rea. So neat! There is zero cell service with VZ and TMobile. We loved the stars and quiet. For driving purposes it’s 11 miles down 190 once you take the left off of 127. Shortly after the 1000’ elevation sign. We also hiked around and found some curious plants. Just a tip, there is no lifeguard on duty. Lol! Enjoy your time!
Great campsite - being in a campervan, I loved having the flat concrete pads to park on. Most spots had fire pits (no rack). Quiet and safe. About 20-30 spots taken the first night and only about 10-15 the second night I was there, so you’re not alone but the place is huge so there’s PLENTY of space and privacy. Nothing in the area so the night lights are spectacular.
Some people with 4X4’s drove up to the top of the hill (first pic) which seems to be a popular spot but I have no idea what’s up there. No toilets.
