Kyle Canyon Picnic Area is set in the beautiful Spring Mountains National Recreation Area, just 23 miles from Las Vegas. Visitors enjoy hiking, horseback riding and scenic driving in this forested desert oasis. Natural Features: The Spring Mountains National Recreation Area is a beautiful island in the desert, brimming with breathtaking scenery and diverse flora and fauna. The Bristlecone pine, the worlds oldest organism, and the rare Mount Charleston blue butterfly are both found within the Spring Mountains. More than 100 springs create the namesake for the mountain range, making it an ideal place to escape the heat of the city. The picnic area is set in an open forest of ponderosa pine, mountain mahogany and Gambel oak, which provides partial shade. Manzanita and wild roses dot the landscape. A seasonal stream and the highway parallels the area. Most sites have views of the surrounding towering canyon walls. Recreation: The 1.6-mile Fletcher Canyon Trail begins nearby. Facilities: This year-round picnic area contains several single and double sites, four of which are accessible. Sites are equipped with a picnic table, campfire ring and grill. Flush toilets and drinking water are provided. Roads and parking spurs are paved. Nearby Attractions: More than 60 miles of hiking and horseback riding trails crisscross the area; two trails allow mountain biking. Rock climbing, picnicking and scenic driving are popular activities.

Nice, Simple Campground. Clean bathrooms and lots of nice sites to pick from. Only saw one where you might pitch a tent, mostly for RV camping.
As of August 25, 2023 Kyle Canyon Picnic Area/Campground along with many other public areas on the Kyle Canyon side of Mount Charleston are closed due to the aftermath of Tropical Storm Hillary causing major flood damage which caused many safety issues that need to be corrected. To keep up on when these areas will reopen check out the official U.S. Forest Service public information channels.
Good hiking and picnic spot, make sure to come when it's on season as most of the campgrounds and picnic areas are closed.
Good snow hiking and sledding in the area. Some sloped areas were icy and slippery so be prepared. We had slip-on ice cleats strapped to our boots.
There were a few inches of fresh new powder snow on the ground, on the morning of Dec. 29,2021.
Limited parking and you cannot park on the road ( highway) but luckily, after 5 minutes wait, we got a parking spot at a small parking area.
Love this place for camping. Great rates. Gated. Clean bathroom. Nice area. Lots of hiking.
