About Campground

McWilliams Campground is located in the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area, just 50 miles from downtown Las Vegas. Visitors enjoy Mt Charleston camping, hiking, mountain biking and scenic driving in this forested desert oasis. Recreation Hiking and mountain biking are popular activities on the 6.2-mile Bristlecone Trail. Upper and lower trailheads are located just above and below the campground. The 1.3-mile Sawmill Trail begins about four miles below the campground just off Highway 156. Facilities This campground contains several single and double-family sites with picnic tables, grills and campfire rings. Flush and vault toilets, drinking water and trash collection are provided. The Bristlecone pine, the world's oldest organism, and the rare Mount Charleston blue butterfly are both found within the Spring Mountains. This was our first camping trip as a family. The campground was perfectly maintained. The bathrooms were clean with toilet paper and surprisingly warm at night. We started in the loop, there's a hike just around the corner where you can see the hummingbirds play with one another. Just a beautiful experience. Highly recommend for some R & R outside of vegas

Stayed one night, perfect weather and camping was awesome. Big sky, great bathrooms, fire pits. Little chipmunks everywhere and come right up to you!

This is still one of my all time favorite places to camp. It's only about an hour from LasVegas and it's simply beautiful. The weather is about 25-30°s cooler than Vegas. This campground is primative but always exceptionally clean. There are no utility hook ups, only flushing toilets. It costs $25 for a campsite with a fire ring and a picnic table. There are no cover shelters but trees are abundant. If you're quiet in the early morning hours you may have a visit from the wild horses or burros that live there. We did as you can see from the photos they were right outside of our tent. There's something magical about this place.Bring your family including the dog and come see for yourself!

First time camping there. The experience was amazing. The peacefulness of getting out of the city was much needed. The interaction with the 2 wild horses was Top Billing. Got the brown one to eat cookies from my hand( hope it was ok). Then the Pinto wanted in on the action. Brown one made it clear the cookies belonged to him only. He followed me to the barbeque pit and kept nudging for more cookies. Saddly there weren't any left after having had to feed the sqinnies that kept shiwing up. Campgrounds were amazing. Very clean. Park rangers were there and e3aved when present. But let us have our time. Recommend it to all. Very clean and beautiful
