About Campground

The Mt. Chipeta Camp is the first spot off the road inside the Creekside property. This shady site is immediately next to the creek–the perfect place to hear the water rushing by your camp. This campsite has an area with a private picnic table and a slightly lower “deck” by the creek. This space is perfect for a few camp chairs or a hammock. The picnic table is easily accessible from a camper or vehicle parked in the pull-through access. There are no neighbors to the downstream side of this camp. While campers and their vehicles in the upstream Ouray Camp are visible from your site, there is ample space between spots and you can expect a moderate level of privacy.

Good news for furry friends and their humans: we love pets! Please be responsible for cleaning up after your pet and have control of your animal while other guests are nearby. Expect to take your pet with you when you leave the property–they are not permitted to be left alone at the campsite. The pet fee is $30 per pet, per stay, max 2 pets per campsite. If campers have more than 2 pets in their site, a $100 daily fine per animal will be charged.

The Creekside property sits at 8,200 feet and is located off Highway 50 between Monarch Pass to the west and Poncha Springs to the east. As you enter the property via the Creekside Camping Entrance, Chipeta Camp will be the first site on the right-hand side of the road. This site offers pull through access for vans, tow behind campers of 20 feet or less (hitch to bumper) and class A or C (“motorhome” style) RVs of 30 feet or less. The site can include one vehicle (or one vehicle with a tow behind camper) and a maximum of 6 people. There is no on-site office for campsites or cabins.

When you arrive, you’ll notice two entrances to the property: one for the short term cabins and one for the camp sites. *It is important that campers use the Creekside Camping Entrance.* This entrance will be the first turnoff into the Creekside property for westbound travelers coming from Salida and Poncha Springs. For eastbound travelers coming from Monarch Pass, the road will be the second entrance into the Creekside property. The road is marked by a “Creekside Camping Entrance” sign and is shared with a yellow victorian house (commonly known as the “Honk House”). All campsite users should avoid using the Creekside Chalet Entrance. Using the Creekside Chalet Entrance will cause access issues for RV’s and trailers and will complicate your camping adventure.

Campers will use a self check-in system when they arrive at the campsite–there is no front desk area. All campsites have a picnic table, electricity, port-a-potty access and use of a shared water spigot. The electricity in each campsite provides 120v, 20 & 30 amp power. The porta-potty is near the Creekside Campsite entrance, approximately 75 feet from the Chipeta campsite. It is shared between three sites and is serviced weekly. The water spigot is approximately 100 feet from this campsite and provides fresh, drinkable water. All three campsites on the property will share this water spigot. (Be aware that while the creek runs clear and clean, it is not safe to drink directly from mountain streams.)

Camp grills and stoves for cooking are not provided and open fires are not permitted. Propane fire pits are allowed and are available for rent for $25 a night (includes a S’mores kit for 6).

The Chipeta Campsite is located within the Creekside Chalets, a rental property with 9 short-term rental cabins. Guests in the campsites are welcome to use the shared amenities including two small playground areas, paved walking paths and seating areas with communal adirondack chairs. Sites are across the road from a short term cabin and campers should expect to see other guests on the property.

All campers at the Chipeta Campsite are expected to leave the campsite clean upon their departure by removing all trash, recycling, dog waste, cigarette butts and all camping items.

We spent Thanksgiving at the Chalets in the Mt Elbert cabin. We are a couple with two Goldendoodles and had plenty of room in a two bedroom cabin. Best things about the cabin were the cleanliness, the King sized bed which was sooo comfortable, and the hot tub which had a privacy fence. The Chalets are very dog friendly and provide lots of extras. Definitely recommend.

Cannot say enough good things about this property!! Not only are the grounds incredibly beautiful but they are so well maintained! The cabins are pristine, VERY spacious, and perfectly equipped with everything you might possibly need! We were beyond impressed at just how clean and how well thought out every single little detail was. The owners of creekside chalets know customer service and truly take pride in their property! We will be back over and over again, such a little gem of a place!

We had a lovely stay. Clean chalet with lots of natural light, kitchen was well-stocked with useful appliances, bedding was soft and comfortable, and private hot tub was a bonus. Would recommend!

I cannot tell you how much we loved staying here! The cabins were clean, well maintained, and well stocked. We will be coming back to stay rather than doing a hotel or different rentals.

The kitchens are stocked with lots of dishes, all the pans you could want. No dishwasher which could be a problem for some people. It was equipped with everything to have meals in the cabin.

There are a couple little playgrounds on the property which would be great for kids. The staff we interacted with were super nice.

Wonderful place!

We absolutely loved our stay here. The cabins are beautiful, clean, and smelled good. The bed was so huge and comfy, loved the private hot tub and community area outside the cabin too. It was a perfect romantic getaway for our anniversary. Cannot recommend this enough! We will definitely be back.
