Trail is rated as a 4 our of 10 for difficulty. I'd say a stock Jeep with good tire placement and you're good. Trucks are a bit tight on any Colorado trail, including this one but will make it. Gorgeous area with lots of wildlife. We parked up top and hiked our gear down to get this perfect spot on the NW end of the lake. Well worth a little more effort. On Jeep Rd. there are spots that a 4x4 SUV or truck can access for camping right on the lake as well. Like anything in Colorado anymore, get here early for the best spots!

Nice spot to camp or hang out for the day. Was very crowded however and you don’t have much privacy from neighboring sites.

Beautiful lake!! Fairly tough 4 wheel drive road to get there, definitely needed a high clearance vehicle. We took out 4 Runner (2005 w/ stock lift) and it was no problem. Pretty busy, but not nearly as crowded as St Mary's Glacier or Fall River Reservoir. Lots of people fishing and camping. We were just there for a day excursion/picnic and had a lovely time. Tons of wildflowers in late July 2018

Went up on a Friday so it wasn't too busy. We hiked up to Slater lake but we took the kayak out on Upper Chinns reservoir and that was nice. I did not see the sign showing to left you must take off of 275 so check your navigation.

I went to Chinns Lake on my birthday, loved it. There was some snow on the ground bit it was easy to walk on. It was a bumpy ride driving up to this lake, but it was totally worth it. Breathtaking view and amazing spots for camping. Very peaceful. I recommend it.
