Situated at the foot of the Continental Divide, Pawnee Campground is in a mature spruce-fir forest. Be prepared for cold and wet weather at any time. Hiking trails west of this campground enter into the Indian Peaks Wilderness.
Pawnee Campground is located on the east side of Brainard Lake and is the most popular campground in Boulder Ranger District. The scenery is spectacular and the forest provides deep shade, however, at its high elevation of 10,300 feet, Pawnee Campground is cooler and rainier than other campgrounds in the area. The operating season is short, typically lasting only from late June through early September.
From Colorado Highway 72 at Ward, turn west onto the Brainard Lake Road. Travel 2.5 miles to the entrance portal, and continue another two miles to Pawnee Campground, located on the east side of Brainard Lake.
Reservations can be made from up to 180 to a minimum of four days in advance of your arrival to the campground.
Amaizng camping here! Very clean and well built camp sites. Definitely check this place out if you’re in the area!
Pawnee CG is perfectly located in Brainard Lake Rec. Area for camping, hiking, fishing, exploring nature, and photo opportunities. Great for a "base-camp" with several lakes, and trailheads within walking distance. Campground is VERY WELL MAINTAINED by the campground hosts. The hosts I had contact with for the "walk-in" campsite I had were super friendly! Also very knowledgeable of the area. I couldn't recommend a better place for a parent to take children of all ages for a first camping experience.
We love this Campground! We had a wonderful time at site 12! It's super big for four families! We have enough room to play games!
It's very clean! No matter bathroom or campsite. There is enough private space to other neighbors.!
But if you want to go hiking, your campsite reservation doesn't work. You have to walk to the trail site or take a hiking reservation....
Very nice and quiet place. Beautiful lakes, where you can walk. My favorite lake is the Blue Lake. Try to get there in August, when not all the ice on it has melted. Floating aisbergs and blue water are great. And the camp itself is very good. Warm days and cold nights, give pleasure near the fire in the summer months. Around you can see beautiful flowers, deer, moose and beautiful birds.
I have been camping, fishing up here since I was a child. I remember camping one year 9 months pregnant. Best place to go when it is so hot in Denver like today. It has been years since I have been to Brainard Lake. I am going again. Retired now. Going fishing again,
