Chief Hosa campground opened in 1918 as “America’s first motor-camping area.” The campground spans 58 acres within the 2,400 acres of Denver’s Genesee Mountain Park, which is home to a city-owned bison herd and provides a unique opportunity to view these animals in a natural habitat. The nearby historic Chief Hosa Lodge is available for event rentals.

From jct I-70 & US 40: Go 8-1/4 mi W on I-70 to Genesse Dr (exit 253), then 100 yards S on Genesse Dr.
Clean and nice, but awful road noise. You're ~ 1/4 mile from the I-70, so constantly hearing sirens, semi trailers gearing down and braking, and motorcycles revving their engines. Highly recommend bringing earplugs.
Great campsite for groups, multiple RV hookups, a couple of short hikes close by, and you can easily see the local Bison Herd. Came with a group of Cub Scouts, and they all had an absolute blast. Lots of fresh running water, flushable toilets, and even coin operated showers. 25 cents gets you 2 minutes of hot water.
This would easily be a five-star review if it was not so close to the freeway.
Will never go back. 3 days 2 nights was harassed every day by rangers enforcing a policy that the office claims not to have. Was notified that class b & c isn't allowed in the tent section. So after proving my van was a class A the next day notified me that now class A isn't allowed in the tent section. Which means all vans, and cars aren't allowed either..but I was the only one dismissed. Really enjoyed when there camp host cussed me out and screamed at me while saying he's only a volunteer so it doesn't matter what he does to me.. Uses federal park rangers but refuses federal currency
A bit noisy from the highway during the day but ok during the night, Very well received by the ranger. Access to the dump station is a bit awkward going uphill. Wifi provided too weak in the back camping
I would not hesitate to come back.
The host Lonnie does an excellent job of keeping the campground and especially the restrooms spic and span. I don’t understand how people can complain about the road noise when driving only a block or two off I-70 to get to it? Why would you not expect road noise? I slept fine the entire week. The wild flowers were awesome due to the recent rains. Will definitely stay there again. Thank you Lonnie for your hard work keeping the place in shape!
The tent campsite was not level, and also had the restroom lights on it all night. Restroom passcode not provided for late registration. Also right by the highway. Otherwise quite and fine for RV's I'm sure.
