Prettiest place we have been to. No electricity, no phone service, vault toilet, only 9 sites. But the scenery makes up for all that. A beautiful space to get back to nature.

Took our sprinter van the weekend of 8/13. With no prior reservation, my fiancée and I scouted the big horn campgrounds for FF sites and to no avail. We took a last chance at the Middle Fork Campground and Viola, we got lucky with Site #4 FF. It is right on the creek and in fact the best site of all the 9 sites on this campground. Stayed two nights here and fished the creek with my #2 panther Martin spinner. To my surprise the creek produce abundant trout - brown, rainbow & brook. There’s hiking trail right at the entrance to the campground and we found out that there’s a cell phone reception about 3/4 of mile up on the prairie.

The host Debra is an awesome lady, even voluntarily offered to get us some firewood, and she’s on top of everything. Keeps the campground tidy and welcoming. We had a blast at the Middle Fork Campground.

Overall a GREAT experience!

Camp site - We reserved our spot online and pictures didn’t do it justice! It was spacious enough for up to 4 vehicles and a total of 16 people. We only had two cars and tents and had plenty of space leftover for additional people. The site had two grills, a fire-pit with a grill attachment, and poles with hooks for lanterns or whatever you want to hang up. We were right next to a creek so it was pretty cold in the evening. There was a second site next to us but the layout for both sites had the picnic tables in the middle, so everyone’s tents were pretty far. Still spaced out though so you can barely hear any conversations from both campsites especially because of the creek.

Noise level: The creek was LOUD, so you may want to bring ear plugs if that’s not your thing. Sounds from wildlife was very low.

Amenities: There were single restrooms (total of 2) right next to our campsite since stayed at the first site off of the road. They were well maintained and clean despite it just being a single toilet with toilet paper available. There was hand sanitizer and a little glade air freshener in each restroom, I’m assuming from the camp host. There were also trash cans right next to the restroom.

Trails: There is so much to explore! There was a mini trail right in front of our campsite and we got to see a great view from higher up. There are many trails to explore!

We stopped at Bighorn NF on our way to Grand Teton/Yellowstone from Badlands. This area and Middle Fork Campground were absolutely incredible! The campground was impeccably clean, well-run, and gorgeous. We stayed at site 6, which was spacious, shaded, and the babbling water added so much to the experience. Our only regret was that we didn’t stay another night!

Very nice and well-kept. There is a creek that runs behind nearly every site. Very fun rocks to climb on. There's a hiking trail on the road that enters the campground. It's not a super long hike, but there is a lot of hill climbing. Fairly easy. Probably not for little kids. It has a very nice view of the mountains. Picture worthy view. If you stand at the very top, there's just enough service to get notifications and send a small text. That's with Verizon. I have no idea about other carriers.

It is a very popular place. Book sites at least 6 months in advance.
