Beyond the best campground I've ever stayed at. It was so quiet when we first pulled in. The scenery is so gorgeous and the plants around the campsites smelled amazing. The sites are on an honor system, you put cash in an envelope and place them in a tube. We didn't see camp management at all. Firewood was questionable at best. It was a small bundle of laminate wood flooring that didn't burn well and smelled awful. It would have been nice to have real wood available to purchase. I don't think I have a reason to ever pass through here again but I would willingly drive through two states again just to camp here again.
We were so impressed by this campground! There are little structures at each campsite that provide cool shade, along with picnic tables and fire pits. Bathrooms are clean and you can even take a hot shower thanks to the solar power :) It seemed most if not all campsites have a view of the reservoir - we didn’t realize we were anywhere near a body of water prior to arriving so, being able to jump in for a swim was a great surprise! A little breeze kept us comfortable through the hot afternoon, and the camp host (I’m sad we didn’t catch her name!) was incredibly kind. As the sun set, we watched a family of deer hang out just beyond our campsite, and later heard a choir of coyotes down by the water. Tons of beautiful birds and critters nearby, and the view of the stars miles from any light pollution was plain incredible. Moon was so bright we didn’t need flashlights. Such a lovely place to spend a night - we wish we could’ve stayed longer!
This campground should be closed.
I checked in and took a shower. The shower was why I chose the campground. The water preasure was very low but the water was hot. When I came out the camp host was waiting for me so they could close and lock the restrooms. Two restrooms in the campground and another at the boat ramp were all closed and locked. If the campground can't provide basic sanitary services like restrooms it should be closed.
I had planned to stay 2 nights. The restrooms were still locked at about 10 AM the next day when I left.
Each site shares 2 spots, so if someone parks next to you, they will be right next to you… we were there over July 4th and it was maybe 25% full, so this was not an issue…
Sites are old so using pop outs and awnings can force you to position your trailer in less then optimal spots.
Very scenic, NO CELL COVERAGE, a definite positive if you want to get away. Very windy during our stay, people lost shade covers. Make sure your rain cover is ready.
Beach was more crowded then camp ground. Boat ramp is steep and wide for two trailers.
Overall we would definitely come back.
Awesome campsite, if you love being out in primitive areas with gorgeous views. If you want comfort, look for a KIA campground. I did a hear a generator running, but they shut it off at dusk. The roads need repair, but the garbage is picked up and the park is clean. If people want more, they need to be willing to pay more in taxes or higher camping fees. I like it just way it is.
