Amazing place in the aqua fria national monument. So beautiful. .75 hike in and back. But longer if you explore and go boulder hopping. We will be back. Such a wonderful land there with amazing history.
It's dry again after the March and April runoff, great for hiking and bird watching. Watch out for flash floods in monsoon season. The water can reach thirty feet in the lower canyon(look at the brush piles on the rocks!) Great place to see the petroglyphs is at the convergence of the stream and river on the face of the rock to the east.
Amazing hidden hiking spot right off 17. Easy flat 2 mile round trip to the Aqua Fría river and petroglyphs. Tons of interesting rocks and vegetation plus a crisp cool river to wade in and admire the scenery! Totally worth a stop if you are driving this way or just want to get out of Phoenix for a bit- an awesome spot.
Amazing trail in black canyon city. It’s hard to reach(rocky road) and the trail is also confused. But the view is spectacular. Less people come here, can enjoy the nature with yourself.
An oasis in the middle of nowhere, the hike starts dry and desert but once you reach the creek it is so nice, in some places the water is crystal clear. It was fun and relaxing to keep legs in flowing water, like natural foot massage. Hike is easy but it gets a bit challenging near the creek due to rocks. My dog enjoyed playing in the water a lot. Around noon when we were returning back it was very hot. I suggest going early around 8 or 9am would give enough time to relax/play in the water and come back before it becomes too hot.
