< Previous Next > Double Springs Campground is an “old fashion” campground, originally built in the 1930’s, and has sites nestled in a beautiful draw filled with cool grass, ponderosa pine and Gambel oak. The heart of this camp is Double Spring, which runs to the surface just above camp. Wildlife and bird watching are popular activities in this area as they visit the spring. Some of the birds you may see are hawks, northern harriers, an occasional bald eagle and a variety of song birds. The area also boasts a healthy population of elk and mule deer. Relax and take in the nostalgia of this historic campground or hike the Lake View Trail (2 miles one way), which originates at here. This trail leads to overlooks providing view of nearby Mormon Lake and the surrounding forests and volcanoes. Campground roads and parking spurs are gravel. Trails lead from the campground to scenic overlooks of nearby Mormon Lake and the surrounding area of prairies, forests and volcanoes. Wildlife watching is also a popular activity in this area. It's a very good place to see hawks, including northern harriers and ospreys. The area boasts a healthy population of elk and mule deer, too. The scenic village of Mormon Lake is conveniently close, offering horseback rides, mountain bike rentals. You'll also find a country store, service station, and a picturesque cowboy steak house there. Hover mouse over photo to display slideshow controls. Nice campground but no Bear boxes, very muddy and uneven pads. The camp host was friendly and nice.
This place has the cleanest bathrooms of all time. Cleaner than your home. Seems bathrooms are well sealed and epoxied cleanly. Lots of green trees. Weather is great. Lots of pollen for spring time though. .. but pathways were clean, camp goat came by daily and checked in on everything every day. Sites 14 and 15 are out of the way and are secluded enough to be really nice and calming. Plenty of bird and animals to hear out there
This is primitive camping. There are no facilities except for restrooms, no internet quiet place, the host Wayne was great guy very helpful
Great location for relaxing and even taking a little trip to Flagstaff. Bathrooms were pretty clean and the camp sites were nice, spacious, and mostly spaced apart. Sites 2 & 3 are together and make a nice section for 2 families.
This is a beautiful spot. There is an elderly man who appears to run it and he is extremely rude. I have other words I would like to use, but I won’t. My family and I came just to hike a trail and have a picnic. The sign states $12 for day use, but he charged double and was not nice at all.
