This is a beautiful group of lakes. We launched at "Rat Farm" just outside of McArthur and kayaked up into Ja She Springs. Absolutely wonderful and well worth the drive.
Fall River in general is picturesque! I think Ahjumawi is a bit of a hidden gem to people that don't frequent the area. It's really only accessible by water, which makes it such a unique experience. If you were a person who kayaks, I would think Ahjumawi would be the perfect spot for it!
Fantastic fly fishing if you have a knowledgeable guide like we did. Clearwater guides are great.
Maybe a sustained-heat-induced algae bloom for our visit? Not nearly as sparkly clear waters (except at one or two SMALL springs) as I was led to believe by some pics. But being a little off the beaten path (and a weekday) meant the place was virtually empty - and VERY peaceful. You WANT to kayak here!
Absolutely amazing and truly unique state park. The only way to get here is by boat! This is really a beautiful park. Lots of hiking and very remote! Chances are you won’t run into anyone. There’s a few camp spots and a pit toilet nearby. enjoy the park, but be respectful of the Ajumawi fish traps. They may look like a pile of rocks in the water, but they are not be respectful please.
