About Campground

Our more developed site, closer to our residents’ compound welcomes vans, RVs or tents and has a gorgeous large deck with a fire pit and two cushioned outdoor rocking chairs, along with firewood bundles and charcoal available to purchase.

This is the spot for you if you want your privacy but also want to be closer to what’s happening on the homestead, which currently includes the development of a greenhouse, chicken yard and gardens; and near future plans to create a celtic labyrinth just down from this site. Also, it’s a bit easier for larger RVs to maneuver.

Just far enough away is a Krapper-with-a-view! (Please pee outside to maintain the integrity of our Humanure system.)

Strong cell signal (Verizon and T-Mobile).

Don’t worry if you forget some essentials. Let us know what you need and we may have it available to loan out. We also have a stash of essentials like toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoos etc.

Directions

Follow GPS instructions until the turn off of Pleasant Valley Road. You will see the old historic Wells Fargo building (on left if coming heading east, right if heading west). GPS gets confusing at this point. Take the road adjacent to the WF building which is High Street (regardless of what GPS calls it.) It’s NOT the road immediately adjacent to the building – that’s someone’s driveway. As you head up the hill you’ll see a little squatter’s camp by the side of the road. That’s Harry and his dog. It’s a bit of a mess, but he’s harmless. The road is paved at its steepest, then becomes dirt again. Take the second left to the gate with our address. We will provide a temporary gate code that will be for your visit only. Sometimes the gate is a little moody. If it doesn't open wait a few seconds and try again. After passing through the gate you will see the Laughing Buddha site on your left.

Pretty good, basic facilities. Campsites are spread far enough apart we didn't hear much from the other campers. The nearby creek does a good job of masking sound.

Dark skies - definitely go for a night walk. The Milky Way is obvious and

we saw 3 moons of Jupiter with 8x binoculars.

There's a lot of poison oak growing in the campsites, watch yourselves.

Mosquitos were *thick* for an hour or two around dusk and up to about 10:00 AM. (end of June) Not much of a problem apart from that.

The swimming hole is across the Klamath River Highway in the river itself. You'll see a path down from the big dirt area directly across from the campground entrance. Although rivers can be dangerous, you'd have to try to get in trouble in this spot.

We had no problem with the campground water at the end of June, 2019.

Watch for ants in the outhouses after dark. There's a nocturnal species that seems drawn to toilet paper. :o

Cellphone coverage available 20 miles north starting 2 miles short of Happy Camp. You'll see the cell tower from the highway.

Groceries and a deli open in Happy Camp. There's a fine, hippy-oriented grocery store called Salmon River Outpost at Somes Bar, where the Salmon River Road hits the highway. 5/5 puts some organic oriented stores in big cities to shame.

Great little campground with a FANTASTIC swimming hole! We just got back today (7/22/18). The four stars was for no drinking water. Only one place on their website says no drinking water while 2 other places it says drinking water available. We arrived at Dillon Creek Campground to find there was no drinking water. We were on motorcycles and had minimal water. LUCKILY...I had my Katadyn filter for emergencies. We were able to fill my 500ml Camelback and make several trips down to the river for water. Just be aware that there is NO WATER at the campground. Bring your own. We made the reservation on 1/27/18. The no water notice came out in May. It would have been nice to receive an email notifying anyone who made reservations prior to May that there was no water. Oh well, still an awesome spot, just could have been a disaster if we didn't have our filter.

Access to the river is there, but not great. There is no camp host, although US forestry does drive through a couple times a day. There is water, but make sure you bring your own wood. Overall, not a bad campsite, but with no camp host, if there are other rowdy campers there's not much you can do.

Really great place. The creek running through is easy to get to. Great swimming areas where you can climb up walls and jump in. Secluded areas of you're up for a tiny bit of adventure to find them. But definitely beware of animals at night. We heard quite a few! Put food away and stay in your tent!
