Cottonwood Creek Campground is located on Highway 89, four miles south of Sierraville. Its location makes it a great base camp for a variety of recreational activities, including fishing, hunting, hiking and biking. This facility is operated and maintained by the Tahoe National Forest.
Cottonwood Creek Botanical Trail and Overlook Trail are both short, foot trails that begin in the campground. The surrounding area offers additional trails and fishing opportunities.
The campground offers several single-family campsites, each equipped with a picnic table and campfire ring. Vault toilets, drinking water and trash collection are provided.
The campground sits along Cottonwood Creek, in a stand of Jeffrey pine, and red and white fir trees. The forest provides shade and privacy between sites, but noise from the highway can be heard within the campground.
Lake Tahoe is located about 40 minutes from the campground. Scenic Tahoe offers excellent boating, kayaking, fishing, hiking and scenic driving opportunities.
Sardine Lakes, within the beautiful Lakes Basin, is a 35-minute drive northwest of the campground, via the Golden Chain/Highway 49. Stampede Reservoir is a 45-minute drive southeast.
From Sierraville, CA, take State Rt. 89 south 3.4 miles to campground on left.
This is not where you want to stay in Joshua tree, it is South and nothing here. Star gazing is best North where the observatory is a well as all the hiking, bouldering, photo ops. This is literally to be avoided unless you like doing nothing.
Large group campsite located within Joshua Tree National Park. Obviously, there's no hotel here, so I cannot rate the rooms or the service. I recommend bringing sunscreen and bug spray. They do allow recreational vehicles, but tents are superior when you're camping under the stars, or are in the desert in general.
Really enjoyed this campground. It's amazing what some people write about this place, its remote, yes. Not full of boulders, yes, but its quiet, clean, peaceful and serene. if you want complete peace, go to the middle of the Mojave desert. This campground is 17 minutes from Chiriaco Summit, resturant, market, gas station, airport strip, from WW2, historic George Patton tank museum. George Patton trained his troops here in 1942, the big war. The family owned historic restaurant is really good, worth the drive. They also have nice clean flushing bathrooms and stars galore, and with a motorhome and starlink very comfy. The sites are not level, so bring leveling blocks.
Great campground with bathroom, bonfire pit with metal slats so you can boil things atop of the fire. It also has picnic tables. Great view of the night sky.
I'm going to say that this is the worst campsite in the entire Joshua tree Park.
It's boring there's nothing really there very light trails.
It seems the warmest
It's flat with nothing really to see
It's right next to the freeway
And it's over an hour drive to get to the nearest scenic thing inside of Joshua tree.
I will never again pay money to stay here
